Strathaven Academy Social Subjects

Last Friday we were delighted to welcome the local MSP for Strathaven Mairi McAllan to our school. Our pupils enjoyed learning about life as a politician and they were prepared with many excellent questions about politics and their local community.

Today with Modern Studies, our S1’s visited the Scottish Parliament and even got to sit in on First Ministers Questions! A great day had by all, thank you @ScotParl 😄

Last week we were honoured to host former MSP and Depute Presiding Officer, Linda Fabiani, to our school.  Linda shared her experiences of politics with our S3 pupils, covering topics such as the role of an MSP, legislation and policy, and equality and representation in politics.

S2 visited Dynamic Earth last week- They got the chance to experience the conditions in different biomes through time and were also challenged to see if they could meet Scotland’s net zero target by 2050. A fantastic day out! 😀

Our S3 History trip to the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders museum was the perfect way to round off our Era of the Great War topic. Pupils got the chance to interact with real items from WW1 and explore Stirling Castle! #EraOfTheGreatWar
