I want to do a City Talks podcast on why the English don't like mid-rise living (at least compared to Europeans). I need 3 good guests to discuss this. Suggestions most welcome

@Piers_Taylor Entirely enjoyed this note. Unfashionable to be pro-Norm, but also when listening to him lecture wow he's articulate, city-scale in vision, polymathic in connecting dots - whilst same time dubious clients, climate questionable projects, avoids paying British tax. Both. Two hands

Sure, history may not be kind to Stormin’ Norman but it is a relief to see an architect not thinking making hand made bricks will change the world and yes, his links with big business are dubious, but thank god someone is still thinking unfashionably big. theguardian.com/artanddesign/2…

@stuartwilks @HuttonVictoria @chrisigloo But Stuart, @MIPIMLads images of problematic panels prove the point. MIPIM hosted hundreds of them. Many all white panels. Many all male. Yes, one you referring to has 1 woman. But the overall lack of progress is outrageous. It's 2022! Is this progress? Really? This...?

Hoping the #MIPIM #Ladsladsladslads get the message that this grotesque lack of diversity is wrong & extreme negative publicity 4 their firms & them individually, & either do it right next year or, better still, don't do it at all. Brilliant work by @MIPIMLads @WiPUK @BAMEinProp

@Dangerdave1979 That made me chuckle. No, none the SE, M+Es I collaborate with exactly Jordan Belfort. Or Leonardo Di Caprio throwing dollar bills off the side of a yacht.Meant more as metaphor of an attitude, jump on a plane to drink it up on the beach whilst the world burns. Morally bankrupt

@Studioberman Sure, just speaking as an engineer in the built environment, we’re not likely to be the Wolf-end of the party spectrum. And if it were me I’d be at MIPIM under duress even in peace-time

Just been invited by an engineering firm to breakfast on the beach at MIPIM 2022. Hmm. Feels a bit...

@AshleyPerryUK @tcmurray Oh gosh no need to apologise, was just giving an 'update' of sorts. Always great and very very much needed to have manbassadors recognising this is an issue and speaking out on it, gender equity being an issue not only for women

@ChristineBaltas @MIPIMLads @MIPIMWorld Absolutely agree Christine - improvement in delegation not directly comparable to improvement (or a lack of improvement) in diversity of on panels. Who is invited to speak indicates the voices and points of view that are valued and promoted. And women are being left out

@LisaAshurst @MIPIMLads @MIPIMWorld Good to hear Lisa but doesn't appear representation - gendered, and also racial diversity - being taken in any way seriously panels and chaired events. The optics don't paint a good picture. That matters because it's indication of voices considered of value. And too, role models

@Studioberman @MIPIMLads @MIPIMWorld I saw plenty of diverse panels this year, especially UK ones. In fact I’d say women were far better represented this year than any year before. Yes, there’s still a long way to go but strides have been made.

@Dangerdave1979 The good ones. But the point was that being invited to go to MIPIM in Cannes to prance around on a beach drinking cocktails and schmooze, whilst there is a world war on, biting global inequality, ongoing global pandemic - is somewhat Wolf of Wall Street-styled behaviour.
