MIDDLEMEN AND FARMERS DRAMA A lot has been happening around the cucumber market lately which is causing lots of issues for farmers. Sometimes, you will hear some news from the farm that will make your heart cut. We brought 10 bags of cucumbers to you on Saturday, the same day we harvested. The manager was with you for a few hours to study the market and all of that. There was no any complaint. The produce looked firm and was ready to be taken. But a few hours after he left, the man called and started yarning rub*ish. The cucumbers are bitter and can't be sold for 10,000 bla..bla..bla....I've sold just two bags for 9,000 and you need to come and pick the rest or I will dispose them, he added. When the manager reported to me, I told him to tell the man to do all he could to get the remaining ones sold. He reached out later yesterday to say that he sold 4 bags for 6k each and that the remaining 4 bags are still there. The truth of the matter is "the middlemen are the worst enemies of the farmer." After mishandling one's produce, they will sell it at a ridiculous price. Sometimes they earn almost the same amount as farmers. By the time the farmer removes all the expenses including capital, nothing or little is what he or she has left. NOW THE QUESTION IS How do we solve the middlemen and market issue? @Sunday_expert @willieatk1 I farm cucumbers a lot. Moreso, Nigeria's peculiar problems are storage. So when there's surplus, prices go down. Harvest becomes nothing.

If you're in south west... Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun etc and you have access to land where you can grow vegetables ( Efor and Ewedu). If You have access to 3 plots of land, a pumping machine and host incase of rain breaks... You can make yourself millions of naira between now in January next year. It will stress you, but remember anything Money no dey always dey easy. Yes the market falls and rise never mind, the code is; always have veggies to sell. Take over the local markets around you. Even if you buy the machine and host to start, you will enter profit in less than 4months. Be careful of middle men and women... Those guys can owe farmers money o... They are terrible to deal with. Always confirm market prices, as it shift every now and then... Take some to market whenever you have the chance to. 20 dozen at 5k=100k 40 dozen at 3k=120k You can be making either of this every week depending of your strength 💪 3 plots can give you over 200 dozen if maintain it well.

@willieatk1 Na lie. Rain has come. It won't be expensive again and as such reality available everywhere. Moreso, during rainy season, most of these crops can and will be grown by all and sundry because of availability of rain water. This can only make sense during Dry season. ✌️

Update, all thanks to the people that donated towards my farm fencing project. Ina ko ni tan lowo yin o🙏 I secured 10 galvanized nets this morning at 29,000 naira each totaling to 290,000 naira.
