America keeps telling Black people to trust the system, respect the verdicts, and accept whatever the courts decide. The problem is we’ve been watching who gets the benefit of the doubt. Kyle Rittenhouse crossed state lines with an AR-15, inserted himself into a volatile situation, killed two people, and was acquitted. Donald Trump later welcomed him to Mar-a-Lago for photo ops and praise. Daniel Penny placed Jordan Neely in a chokehold until he died. Jordan Neely never touched Penny. Penny was acquitted and later celebrated by Donald Trump and J.D. Vance as a hero. Meanwhile, Karmelo Anthony, a Black teenager involved in a confrontation with a larger white student who initiated the physical encounter, claimed self-defense and was sentenced to 35 years in prison, more time than former white police officers Derek Chauvin and Amber Guyger got for the murders of George Floyd and Botham Jean combined. That’s why many Black Americans are not interested in lectures about “self-defense,” “respecting the verdict,” or “trusting the law” from people who applauded Rittenhouse, celebrated Penny, defended George Zimmerman, raised money for Derek Chauvin, and still make excuses for Amber Guyger. The pattern is impossible to ignore. When a white person kills a Black person, we’re told to understand the fear, consider the circumstances, extend grace, and give the benefit of the doubt. When a Black person kills a white person, suddenly there is no grace, no nuance, no context, and no benefit of the doubt. Don’t tell us the system is colorblind when we’ve watched the same people cheer one verdict and rage against another based almost entirely on who was holding the weapon and who ended up dead. The issue isn’t whether America believes in self-defense. The issue is whose self-defense America is willing to believe.

Researchers at Stanford University have elucidated a mechanism behind the occurrence of myocarditis following mRNA COVID-19 vaccination, particularly in young males. Analysis of blood samples from vaccinated individuals revealed elevated levels of two cytokines—CXCL10 and interferon-gamma (IFN-γ)—in those who developed post-vaccination myocarditis. These signaling proteins initiate a two-step inflammatory cascade: CXCL10, primarily produced by macrophages in response to the vaccine, recruits T cells that release IFN-γ, which in turn attracts aggressive immune cells (such as neutrophils and macrophages) to the heart, leading to tissue damage. In preclinical models (including mice and human cardiac tissue), neutralizing CXCL10 and IFN-γ significantly reduced cardiac injury and immune cell infiltration without impairing the vaccine's overall immunogenicity. Additionally, pretreatment with genistein—a soy-derived anti-inflammatory compound—attenuated the cytokine surge and mitigated heart damage in these models. Vaccine-associated myocarditis typically presents with symptoms like chest pain, shortness of breath, and palpitations shortly after the second dose and remains exceedingly rare. Importantly, SARS-CoV-2 infection itself poses a substantially higher risk of myocarditis—along with severe multisystem complications—reinforcing that the benefits of mRNA vaccination far exceed the risks. Statistics report 1 case of myocarditis in 9,000–25,000 doses for the highest-risk groups, adolescent and young adult males, particularly after the second dose. Rates were much lower in females, older adults, and after first or booster doses. For context, myocarditis risk from actual COVID-19 infection was substantially higher—often 10 times or more in comparable age groups. [Cao, X., Manhas, A., Chen, Y.-I., et al. (2025). Inhibition of CXCL10 and IFN-γ ameliorates myocarditis in preclinical models of SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccination. Science Translational Medicine. DOI: 10.1126/scitranslmed.adq0143]

Fired "60 Minutes" journalist Scott Pelley says CBS News boss Bari Weiss is lying when she says there was an effort to "find a way back" for him. "At no point did anyone in the meeting suggest there could be steps taken by either side that would lead to a resolution. Weiss and Tom Cibrowski were openly hostile from the start. 'Firing' was raised by Cibrowski in the first 15 seconds. No CBS executive, at any time, suggested 'a way back.' To say so now is disingenuous. And they know it. In fact, Weiss, Cibrowski and Nick Bilton refused to answer my questions. I asked Weiss a number of questions about why she fired the entire senior staff of '60 Minutes' a few days before and without cause. 'I'm not answering that question,' she said... These executives cannot gain the trust of the staff with lies. This is antithetical to everything we stand for and reveals contempt for what journalists do." variety.com/2026/tv/news/c…

The United States has officially extended its sovereign rights to a massive new area of the ocean floor, nearly 386,000 square miles (1 million square kilometers). This underwater region is almost 60% the size of Alaska, or larger than California and Texas combined. This is not new land emerging from the sea. It is an expansion of the Extended Continental Shelf (ECS), a legal designation under international maritime law that grants countries exclusive rights to the seabed and subsoil resources beyond the standard 200-nautical-mile limit. To make the claim, the U.S. spent more than 20 years gathering scientific evidence across the Arctic, Atlantic, Pacific, Bering Sea, Gulf of Mexico, and waters near the Mariana Islands. Scientists completed 40 major ocean missions using advanced sonar mapping, seismic profiling, sediment sampling, and geological analysis. In the process, they even discovered previously unknown seamounts and geological features. The resulting submission maps the outer limits of the U.S. continental shelf based on the rules of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), even though the U.S. has not formally ratified the treaty. Importantly, this expansion does not grant ownership of the overlying ocean water, nor does it expand fishing rights or territorial waters. It provides exclusive U.S. rights to explore and exploit resources on and beneath the seafloor, including oil, natural gas, rare earth minerals, and other valuable deposits, and strengthens the nation’s authority to regulate environmental activities in these areas. As global competition for critical underwater resources intensifies, this claim could prove strategically important for energy, technology, and future industries. However, it also raises geopolitical tensions, particularly in the Arctic where some areas overlap with Canadian claims and lie near Russian interests. Scientists and policymakers caution that increased access to the deep sea could put additional pressure on fragile, poorly understood marine ecosystems. Overall, this move reflects a broader international race to map and claim the hidden geography beneath the world’s oceans.

Scientists at Stanford Medicine have proposed an explanation for the rare cases of myocarditis that can occur after mRNA COVID-19 vaccination. The research points to a two-step inflammatory process involving the cytokines CXCL10 and IFN-gamma. According to the study, vaccine-activated immune cells, particularly macrophages, produce high levels of CXCL10. This molecule then stimulates T cells to release IFN-gamma, creating a potent inflammatory signal that can damage heart muscle cells. The team confirmed this pathway through experiments using human heart tissue models, immune cells, and mice. Importantly, blocking CXCL10 and IFN-gamma reduced signs of heart injury in laboratory models while largely preserving the protective immune response generated by the vaccine. The researchers also tested genistein, a natural compound found in soybeans, which showed anti-inflammatory effects in the models, though further clinical studies are required. Myocarditis following mRNA vaccination is very rare, occurring in approximately 1 in 140,000 people after the first dose and 1 in 32,000 after the second, with higher rates observed in young males. Most cases are mild and resolve with full recovery. The study notes that COVID-19 infection itself carries a significantly higher risk of myocarditis, roughly 10 times greater than vaccination. This work may inform the development of safer future mRNA vaccines while underscoring the established benefits of current ones in preventing severe COVID-19 outcomes. [Cao, X., et al. (2025). Inhibition of CXCL10 and IFN-γ ameliorates myocarditis in preclinical models of SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccination. Science Translational Medicine, 17(828)]
