Besides being a wonderful person, Dave exits the industry as clearly one of the best sportswriters in the history of our market, alongside Edwin Pope, Dan Le Batard and @gregcote as the most elegant wordsmiths in the history of South Florida sportswriting, in my view. He'll be missed.

My 36-year run at the Sun-Sentinel is over. Laid off for the first time since I lost my job as an ice-rink skate guard at 17. Cost-cutting move then, they said, too. I'm a month from 65, so please keep any sympathy for my newspaper friends who didn’t make it to the finish line like I have. I’m looking forward to doing some things I want to do so before the hall narrows and the light dims so you might not be completely done with me yet. Thanks to everyone who made it such a fun run.

Dave's epic career merited the right finish on his terms and he deserved better than how the Sun-Sentinel made it happen. But overriding the ending are the 36 years of excellence. Well done, sir. Proud to have called you a colleague and a friend I've admired and respected.

My friend Rondale Moore would have turned 26 years old today. I wanted to make a post in his memory and remind everyone that mental health matters. It doesn’t care if you’re rich or poor, young or old, famous or unknown. It can affect anyone. No matter what we accomplish in life, nothing is more important than our mental health. I pray for Rondale and his family today, and I hope he knew just how loved he was. I also hope anyone reading this remembers that you are loved too, and that it’s OK to ask for help when you need it.
