To me cricket is a contest between bat and ball. Watching people swing through the line and hitting sixes over 50 yard boundaries is not the game I love.

Australia’s preparation has been chaotic, it’s bowling unthreatening & its batting jarringly dated & patchy across the last two games. Barring a minor miracle, it will be the third straight T20 World Cup without a semi final appearance. Say what you want about selection, the proliferation of global tournaments since Covid, & the relevance of T20I cricket in general, but it’s indisputable Australia has fallen well behind in the format. Work to do before the 2028 edition in Aus/NZ. @SEN_Cricket @1116sen

So the metro tunnel…. It’s just for people wanting to get into the central part of the city or travel through the city. And those going to the top or bottom of the city, they now have a worse travel experience with 1-2 extra changes? I’m not sure there is a net benefit of this

A woman aboard an Airbus A320 flight heard an unusual noise, like a barking dog, from the hydraulic system. She called her pilot boyfriend, who advised it was not normal. Panicking, she rushed to the emergency exit and tried to open it mid-flight. Passengers and crew quickly intervened, restraining her as she insisted on evacuating. Chaos ensued with shouts and pleas for calm, but she refused to sit down, citing her boyfriend's warning.

Outstanding from Greg Chappell, describing the attitude from both sides as “Appalling!” “blaming the pitch rather than their own frailties. Few put their body on the line, gesturing, laughing and cursing as they departed as if the surface was unplayable.” smh.com.au/sport/cricket/…

Greg Chappell’s analysis of the state of play ex the MCG batting ineptitude is worth reading. I can hear Curtly Ambrose opining on the West Indies batting more loudly now. It’s contagious in our white ball mania….”maan, Dey don’t block ‘em anymore🏏”. Put respect first.

I’ve given The Ashes more thought - what I mentioned a while back about batting techniques is ringing louder and louder. Reemphasising previous opinion, that they’re simply not being built on the foundations of defence. It’s so good to see other former players now acknowledging the same modern day flaws. So when you get a wicket that’s quite spicy, the result like MCG will happen. I like to find solutions for noticeable issues but I can’t find one with this. T20 cricket now governs the world game and defence is certainly not a priority for the modern day player. You CANNOT blame the player. He is a business and must take all the cash he can! I’ve always backed the players! The question remains - do the powerhouses that govern the game want Test Cricket to survive or is it merely lip service to the loyal fans of that form of cricket? Is the money for boards so good in franchises for domestic tournaments too good to not prioritise it? Why didn’t SKY take the Ashes, being the UK’s home of cricket? I seriously don’t know the full answers to these questions. I’m in SA and Boxing Day in Cape Town was a T20! As someone who belongs to the 100 Test Club, it’s v v hard to watch…

@1116sen @WhateleySEN What exactly “malfunctioned” for the Head wicket? Was it Alyssa Healy on TV comms because she didn’t pick anything up … just called it a better length.

An abomination of a Test match. Regardless of result. It’s not entertainment, it’s mediocrity. It’s certainly not Test cricket. A bitterly sad day for this once grand game. Players, coaches & curator all culpable. Diabolical. #Ashes
