💯 they are. The Netherlands was the first country in the world to legalize euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide in 2002. Under the Termination of Life on Request and Assisted Suicide Act, a physician may perform euthanasia only if strict due care criteria are met: the patient’s request must be voluntary and well-considered, their suffering must be unbearable with no prospect of improvement, the patient must be fully informed about their situation and prognosis, there must be no reasonable alternatives, an independent physician must be consulted, and due medical care must be exercised. In 2025, the Regional Euthanasia Review Committees received a record 10,341 notifications of euthanasia or assisted suicide. This marked a 3.8% increase from the previous year and accounted for nearly 6% of all deaths in the country. The vast majority of cases, over 85% involved common physical conditions such as cancer, neurological disorders, lung diseases, or cardiovascular issues, with most patients over the age of 70. Cases where suffering stemmed primarily from mental disorders decreased to 174. While the Dutch system includes robust safeguards and independent oversight, the steady rise in numbers since legalization has fueled ongoing public and political debate, particularly around applications for psychiatric conditions, dementia, and advance directives. Canada’s MAiD program reveals a devastating moral collapse. In 2024 alone: 16,499 people euthanized, 5.1% of all deaths in Canada (1 in every 20). Cumulative total since legalization in 2016: 76,475. What was sold as a last resort for terminal illness has rapidly expanded to non-terminal disabilities and “grievous and irremediable” suffering. Over 32% of MAiD recipients self-identify as disabled. Track 2 cases (non-terminal) keep growing. Documented stories show people choosing death because of inadequate housing, denied care, long waitlists, poverty, and isolation, problems the system refuses to fix but eagerly “solves” with lethal injection. This isn’t autonomy. It’s abandonment. When the state runs healthcare and death becomes the cheaper option, vulnerable lives are devalued and disposable. Offering euthanasia to the disabled and suffering while skimping on support is immoral and dangerous. True compassion invests in life. MAiD normalizes giving up on it. It's Cheaper to Kill You Than to Treat You: Canada's MAiD Program Explained | CLIP Karla Treadway @thesovereignceo walks through Canada's Medical Assistance in Dying program and how it quietly expanded from terminal illness to depression, homelessness and disability with pamphlets now advertising assisted suicide as faster than therapy. She and Efrat connect the dots to a cold fiat-era cost-benefit logic: with ballooning debt and a broken healthcare system, depopulation has become cheaper than treatment. Full episode below.

This isn’t compassion, it’s a systemic failure dressed up as mercy. Canada’s MAiD program now ends 1 in every 20 lives (16,499 people in 2024 alone, 5.1% of all deaths). What started for the terminally ill has expanded to disabilities, chronic conditions, poverty, and isolation. When governments make death cheaper than proper care, housing, or support, the vulnerable pay with their lives. Disabled Canadians deserve help to live, not an exit ramp when systems fail them. We are better than this.

🎙️ Sovereign Living & Canada as a Crystal Ball Ep. 131 with @thesovereignceo Karla Joy Treadway is a serial entrepreneur, marketing strategist for freedom-minded entrepreneurs, writer, speaker, and host of the Sovereign Sphere podcast, broadcasting from an island on Lake of the Woods in Ontario, Canada, where she and her family hunt, fish, fly their own plane, and homestead off the beaten path. Covid lockdowns cost her everything: her studio, her income, her community. Being canceled overnight for questioning medical mandates cost her the rest. Rather than go quiet, she went harder. In this conversation, Karla and I cover the Freedom Convoy and its consequences; what sovereign, self-reliant living really looks like day to day; the AI content tsunami quietly reshaping entrepreneurship and the narrow window entrepreneurs still have to build real trust; Canada’s MAiD program as a window into where government-controlled healthcare ultimately leads; and what keeps Karla grounded, when the world feels like it’s heading toward a point of no return. → Please like, comment, share & follow — to help me beat the suppressing algo's.
