My nephew and his girlfriend had a baby. Mom was serious drug user. The mom vanished at 2 mos and left baby behind. Nephew had his own issues - although he tried his best. Grandparents took guardianship at about 18 mos. Grandparents decided to adopt when kid is 7. Their son signs away his rights. The mother had never contacted child at all in 8 years. But court required she be notified by notice in papers. No one knew where she was. She turned up in court and fought adoption. She won. She retained her rights to the child and even received visitation. Child could not be adopted by the only parents he’s ever known. Mom saw child one time and disappeared again. Child is now 13. Mom moves to town (has 2 disabled young children ). She demands visitation but uses child only a babysitter for her younger children while she goes to bars. Police were notified. They found two disabled kids alone with the boy in question. Court ruled again in moms favor. Boy hates her. She had since left town, again no contact. The child is cursed to live in limbo. I never dreamed the court would let her retain custody after an 8 year abandonment. But they did.

My sister agreed to carry a surrogate pregnancy but the couple did not come for their baby after birth. She tried to contact them by all possible means but couldn't reach them so she raised the child as her own alongside her 3 other children. So 11 years later,last week the couple,out of nowhere appears at her home demanding for their kid.Turns out 4 months into the my sister's surrogate pregnancy,the wife of that guy also got pregnant and she infact gave birth to twins and they decided to cut ties with my sister. 10 years later, that's early last year there was a fire outbreak at their home and unfortunately their twins were burnt to death. Since then they've been trying to get pregnant again but they couldn't( the wife has hit menopause) and now they decide to come for their child. My sister is hearing none of it, shes moving to court tomorrow
