@TBRaysCentral Hit him leadoff or he really doesn’t have a place in TB. He raises his OBP and then provides value since he doesn’t have power, or he stays the same and you just move on from him. A productive Simpson leading off followed by Yandy/Junior/Aranda is a good top half.

Here’s what is curious to me: The Rays lead off Chandler Simpson the majority of his games last season, and that was when they had the core 4 of Yandy/Junior/Aranda/BLowe. Now they’re having Fraley and Mullins in the 3/5 spots, (2 guys who are clearly worse hitters than BLowe) and have Simpson lower in the lineup? Do they not expect Simpson to improve his OBP by 15-20 points in his 2nd season? Because that’s really all he needs to do to be a productive leadoff hitter. I’m just wondering what the reason is for having less protection for Junior when the obvious solution is to bump Yandy from the leadoff spot and have either him or Aranda behind Junior.

@ECloskyWTSP Junior should always be hitting behind Yandy. Should be Simpson/Yandy/Junior/Aranda. If Simpson can’t be good at leadoff then he offers little value going forward.

@_PR_81 If Junior was batting 3rd, he would have been walked to get to Fraley. The problem wasn't in the 10th inning. The problem was before the game with the lineup construction. They have to sandwich Junior between Yandy and Aranda. You have to protect your best hitter.

Valiant effort from the Rays, but Griffin Jax walking the first hitter on four pitches is inexcusable. After two games, he has failed in two critical, high-leverage opportunities. Two gut-wrenching L's to begin the season.
