Most of the approved “daycares” have concerning deficiencies documented in state inspections, including missing background checks, cross-contamination of EpiPens, sippy cups, and bottles, reports of serious injuries, and unsafe playground equipment, just to name a few. According to the evaluation, only 40% of the parents receiving free daycare even attempted to secure employment. Some daycare facilities are also located outside of the program’s approved ZIP codes. In addition, not all centers meet the required Texas Rising Star rating for participation in the program. BakerRipley is charging an excessive 25% in administrative fees, bringing the cost to taxpayers to nearly $40,000 per child annually. These centers do not offer true educational programs. They are primarily care facilities, functioning more like babysitting services than early childhood education providers. The program was presented as supporting early childhood education, yet many of these centers lack any meaningful curriculum. And the county just shoved another mil of funding into it from our tax dollars.

Harris County, TX Item 181. More Subsidized Childcare Slots 😲 Commissioners approve (?) giving BakerRipley another million to subsidize more childcare through Early REACH — Raising Educational Access for Children in Harris County. Request by the Office of the Purchasing Agent that the County Judge execute an amendment to an agreement with BakerRipley in the additional amount of $932,036 to update the budget in Exhibit B and update the Federal Award Identification Table in Exhibit E for Child Care Contracted Slots Program for the Department of Economic Equity and Opportunity for the extended period of January 31, 2025 - December 31, 2026 (220193), MWBE Contracted Goal: 2%. Why did we just give them another million bucks to increase the number of childcare slots for a program that is ending in September? Passes 3:1 Ramsey is a no! harriscountytx.legistar.com/LegislationDet…

🚨 Ignacio Lopez, 18, has been charged with murder in the shooting death of 23-year-old Eliseo Murillo in a brazen daylight shooting. He is currently in the 209th Criminal District Court with Judge Brian Warren, awaiting an 11D hearing that could deny him bail. Per HPD, On March 15 around 11:15 a.m., Houston police responded to a shooting at 10500 Bauman Road. Officers found Eliseo Murillo on the street with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. Investigators say Murillo was simply walking northbound when the suspect got out of a vehicle and opened fire, shooting him multiple times before fleeing. Lopez was identified and arrested on March 18. He is now charged and sitting in jail. A 23-year-old man lost his life in the middle of the day. Shot in the street. This is not someone who should ever be given a second chance to walk free while awaiting trial, and why stronger bail laws matter. Texas cannot afford policies that put violent offenders back on the streets. Eliseo Murillo should still be here. Instead, his family is planning a funeral while the system decides whether his accused killer should get a bond. That should never even be a question. #Prop3

It is quite amusing the entire political spectrum from Left to Right gave up on Cesar Chavez in a matter of *hours* bc one of article in the New York Times It’s a good example of how people still reflexively believe legacy media.

Now that the city isn't required to track lobbyists' meetings, I guess we don't need to have a webpage for them either??

Barton Springs pool in Austin, 1947. You are looking from west to east, toward downtown Austin. Don't y'all know this was a happy, carefree time? The war was over, the Great Depression a memory, and folks were breathing a collective sigh of relief. Such innocent times! 🎶Those were the days, my friend, we thought they'd never end 🎵 Taken by Neil Douglass and courtesy the @AustinPublicLib

total xanax thought but a minority of loud voices telling everyone they are going to lose their jobs to AI is causing the same mental breakage in 2026 as telling everyone they were all going to die from Covid in 2020

A year ago, a group of us went to Austin to testify for legislation aimed at protecting our communities from the consequences of irresponsible bail reform. It was a long day. It was emotional. But in the end, it was successful. I’m incredibly proud of the work we’ve done so far, and I’m looking forward to the next session to see how much more we can accomplish. I’m especially grateful to have stood alongside such strong, dedicated friends that day. 🫶🏼🦋 #TCVU

@AustinJustice @_cruzctrl1 This is really disturbing, because it is shown that sex offenders are one of the most likely groups of people to re-offend! You have to check up on them!

Why did you say some bs "durrr...communicates differently" and not just say the truth that he's non-verbal? Let the kid decide what he thinks don't make it up for him. Unless you really believe that. Yes. He "communicates differently" in that he can't fkn talk like everyone else. Why not say that?
