@Xiphos_YT I always thought game key card backlash was over blow. Sure they will stop working one day but by the time that day comes we will probably have working emulators or means to jailbreak the console. And you can still trade or sell the game like a normal cartridge.

@Dagathar Basic consumer economics. If the price is too high, the market will self correct. Ultimately it's up to the consumer.

Yes, PlayStation is pushing digital because it makes them more money. But that's only part of the story. The bigger reason is that consumers have already shifted. Most PlayStation game sales (and 3rd party) are digital now, so Sony is building hardware around how the majority of people actually buy games. They're following consumer behavior.
