Something to piss you off on this Monday:

The first test results of our pasture raised chicken are incredible - compared to conventional store bought chicken - this is not just nicer / family farm feel good chicken - we are getting real results showing real nutritional outcomes. Once this next batch is tested - it’ll be later this year, I’m hoping to publish the results on our website. We’ve adjusted the feed formula to improve on the current outcomes and will expect to revise again for the autumn chickens.

I had this exact same experience with my boxer last year. $10k, ICU for a week, end result we had to say goodbye. 😭 She wasn’t eating, took her in to vet, tests were inconclusive, dehydrated, IV fluids, “bring her back in a couple days if she doesn’t improve”…no improvement. I’m injecting homemade chicken bone broth with a syringe in her mouth constantly - the only thing I can do at home. We take her to the vet hospital and they admit her for the week. We visit her and she looks miserable. They’ve determined she has had a UTI that’s gone systemic and they’ve treated the infection but now her back legs are inexplicably paralyzed. They’re willing to continue caring for her if I sign the release for a longer stay. If I want to bring her home - “it should only be for euthanasia “ is what choice I’m told. It shouldn’t be this way. Prayers for you and your beautiful baby …I know exactly how you feel.

There is something catastrophically wrong with Americas vet business. I sat for 3 hours yesterday with our 11 year old dog. Test after test. I kept signing financial agreement papers, desperate to find an answer to what’s wrong. Every step of the way, a thorough explanation of the need to do xyz. Always with the sentence at the end “that runs $____” Sign this. By the end of the 3 hours, my choices were pay $5000 to admit her for the rest of the afternoon or put her down. I couldn’t think straight. I walked in with her hours prior thinking she just had some little bug that would be simple to resolve. I can’t stop thinking about how many people would have to choose option 2, because $5000 out of left field isn’t possible to pay. I also can’t believe that I was forced to sit and watch a 14 min vaccine commercial reel on repeat for 3 hours while I contemplated our devastating circumstances. This can’t be the norm. If you have a prayer, I humbly ask if you’d lift our family up this Easter Sunday.

Agree 💯 Make it make sense, right? Raising children to be self reliant, educated/well read, critical thinking adults are the skills our Country has forgotten and forsaken. I am thrilled to see the amount of young people embracing the old ways and the resurgence of “homesteading,” home schooling, and finding the importance of family and community.
