March 28, 1933 - while responding to a fire, the truck hit an icy patch and struck a telephone pole, ejecting Firefighter Louis McGillan. FF McGillan succumbed to his injuries and passed at St. Elizabeth's at the age of 49. Louis was the younger brother of Chief George McGillan.

Today we celebrate the strong women in our community and the incredible women who serve in public safety. To the women of the Appleton Fire Department and all those in public safety, thank you for your commitment, leadership, and impact.

February 13, 1901 - Fire broke out at the Kimberly & Clark Paper Mill in Kimberly. While battling the fire with his crews, Chief Anderson succumbed to overexertion in a narrow passageway and died of a heart attack. He left behind his wife and nine children. He was 50 years old.

Before the holiday cookies and chaos…we got nerdy. 🧪🚒 Back in December, instructors from the Appleton Fire Department and Oshkosh Fire Department Hazardous Materials teams trained 133 firefighters from various local fire departments in chemical ID and decontamination.

Congrats to Division Chief of EMS Ryan Homman on being selected for the 2025 Employee of the Year! Chief Homman has been recognized for his outstanding leadership, innovation, and unwavering commitment to service. In 2025 he led the launch of our Advanced Life Support program.
