@sagedgreen yessss US basically took her personality and style and turned them into a product. in the end it commercializes everything not just alysa, but the sport itself. and what really bothers me is when narratives and branding start to matter more than what actually happens on the ice.

Yess the whole alysa situation shows exactly how dominant anerican cultural exports are (since only american atheletes get huge press), but for Americans the popularity of Stateside and celebrating an alt/lgbt becomes another celebration that diverts attention from bigger issues

@pearl_milkteas personally, i just think olympic gold shouldn’t go to whoever has the best PR or the biggest hype, but to the most talented skater. the US system makes it very easy to build narratives and overscore their favorites.

@pearl_milkteas yess but if the olympics had been two years ago, the gold probably would’ve gone to isabeau. they were already pushing that whole “ice princess” narrative. the alysa push really only started after worlds and then turned into full usfs marketing all through the 2025 season

idk why people are so confused by alysa’s presence at these events when it’s pretty normal for young us women with an ‘it factor’ who win olympic titles to rise to this level of notoriety. just look at suni lee!!
