An Alcoholic in Ireland. Been to the gates of insanity and death; here to share the recovery. If it's not in the BigBook it's just my opinion. sober 21/1/2009

Make Brigid's Day a national holiday! I'm supporting our chance to have a public holiday in Ireland that celebrates a woman, and the women of Ireland. Will you add your name too? #BrigidsDay21 my.uplift.ie/petitions/make…

@Benched_16 It depends. 12 Step fellowships are based on complete abstinence from mind altering substances. There are other modalities, such as Harm Reduction approaches. People should pick what works for them, and respect other people working whatever helps them.

Is there room for cannabis in recovery? Not asking to start an argument or to be condescending. I've heard plenty of opinions rooted in regurgitation of the Big Book & other recovery koans/cliches. What do you REALLY think? Scientific evidence/studies welcomed. #RecoveryPosse

@sobergal_ @RecoveryHour You don’t have to speak. Some, but not all, groups require cameras to be on. Remember, everyone was once a newcomer so they’ll know how to treat you. Irish zoom meetings can be found at aaom.ie/meetings-list

Can anyone give some insight into meeting etiquette? Do I have to speak? Do I have to turn my camera on? I don't feel ready (yet) Any advice welcome - thank you! @RecoveryHour #RecoveryPosse

“Minister @DonnellyStephen explained to me that these meetings are essential; that the AA is an important support service and that groups up to a maximum of 50 can attend meetings.” @CathalCroweTD Seems pretty clear to me.

@LBoucherAuthor So called war stories have their use for the purposes of identification. But soon or later you gotta start identifying with the recovery stories as well, or your in deep trouble.

Alcoholics all have their war stories (or not) but are you going to focus on that or focus on how to live well during your recovery journey while living in solutions? #recovery

@HoffmeisterRick On p. 25 they’re requirements, not suggestions: “There is a solution. Almost none of us liked the self-searching, the leveling of our pride, the confession of shortcomings which the process requires for its successful consummation.”

@BoomerIm Those who do not recover...are naturally incapable of grasping and developing a manner of living which demands rigorous honesty. Their chances are less than average. BB p.58. It’s all or nothing with this way of life. You can’t be two people in recovery. Get honest with all.

Day 46: I like "we're only as sick as our secrets." I need to work on this big time. While I admit to myself, folks in AA, and to you on Twitter I am an alcoholic, I have yet to do the same with friends and family. I am living proof this leads to relapse. #odaat #Sober #shame

@LBoucherAuthor @HenryOCarroll “Our liquor was but a symptom. So we had to get down to causes and conditions”. Bigbook of Alcoholics Anonymous p.64 AA has been telling us this since 1935.

If you’re using alcohol as anesthesia for your wounds or to mask guilt & shame—alcohol had become your solution of avoidance. #recovery will allow you to face & heal your wounds. No more running. #alcohol

@sobberanna Just look around the room and remind yourself; every single person here once had a first AA meeting, and they too were nervous. Everyone in the room knows what it’s like to be a newcomer.
