The Hawks suffer their 2nd loss in the last 16 games.
Atlanta led by 16 early but couldn't hold that advantage and fall by a 109-102 final.
Hawks only committed 4 TOV in the entire game, but shot 39% from the field.
Rematch on Monday in Atlanta.
@LockedOnHawks coming later.

@danzman478 @ChoppinBravos It didn’t sound like that actually. They still expect him back in June/July, he just wouldn’t give a specific date for rehab or return right now, which makes sense. No reason to believe he wouldn’t be back at this time.

Alex Anthopoulus did his opening day interview today -
HSK rehab start April 22-23
Murphy rehab start April 8th
Max rehab assignment is 20 days so-
HSK at the latest mid May return.
Murphy latest end of April.
(Fantastic news. I’ve stood by Murphy is a major factor for this team)
They didn’t want to bump Holmes out of the rotation but they pursued some names that would have done that but thinks they made the right moves. Implied the Waldrep/Schwelly injuries happened too late.
AA talked to Reylo personally after the last spring start because he was as startled as fans and it didn’t make sense he dropped off that way.
Reylo passed all test and strength tests and said he felt fine and couldn’t really explain what happened. They decided to have him throw the bullpen and in the middle of it his velo on all pitches came back.Reylo always goes easy in ST
There are no issues with him he’s healthy.
They stayed in touch on Bassitt. They had the ability and money. The tv deal wasn’t a factor.
Heim is starting tonight so Baldwin can play next two days ( includes quick turnaround) and so Dom Smith can go at DH. He sounds high on Smith (doubt)
Asked about the Profar money and completely ignored it. (They aren’t spending it guys )
They plan to truly purely platoon Eli/Yaz early in LF. He said they know the defense is good there. (Made it sound like Eli is going to get his chance before they add a bat to platoon with Yas)
He said HE wouldn’t answer on Profar being back and couldn’t right now.
Weiss like Harris’s speed at the bottom of the lineup
AJS- all star break will be check up time
Waldrep- two weeks before he starts throwing expected back this year.
Schwelly- still recovering and unknown. They will have to wait and see once he cranks up and how he feels but they will get him going asap. He doesn’t want to commit to a return on him and needs to wait and see since he had fully ramped up this offseason and then went down.
Strider wanted to pitch but they shut him down. He said he was able to go but it was grade 1 on MRI.
Strider didn’t have any of the major symptoms just some tight feeling. He is gonna be right back up and going since he was fully stretched out. AA is optimistic it’ll be on short side but won’t come back until he’s free and clear.
Strider didn’t have any of the major pain Murphy had with his oblique that took a month+ to get healthy from. (Sounded purely cautionary for someone they need all year more than the first two weeks)

@danzman478 Nah schwdlly will be back they just aren’t gonna rush him

The story is Alex Anthopoulos is afraid to spend the capital necessary to acquire starting pitchers, whether it be through trade or free agency. It's not like the Braves haven't spent over the years, and never have they spent on a multi-year starting pitcher in free agency and never swung a big trade
ATL Sky Chop@LeftTurnsRock
@SportsTalkATL Unless he signed elsewhere, there’s more to the story here.

@scottcoleman55 This was definitely something he could have seen coming

I defend Alex more than most, but not acquiring a starter this offseason was malpractice

Strider will start the season on the IL with an oblique strain

The #Braves are simply not allowed to have healthy pitchers

Joey Wentz injured his right leg while covering first base. He was carted off the field, but he walked in the clubhouse under his own power. Initial diagnosis is promising. He’s day-to-day for now.
