And for those curious - a series hybrid powertrain is something as follows. Basically, instead of the diesel engine powering the wheels directly, it is used to charge a battery pack, via a generator. The battery pack discharges to drive an electric motor. An on-board computer can choose when to use the generator to either charge the battery pack, or spin the wheels via an electric motor.. This leads to a much more efficient use case of the diesel engine, as the normal stop-and-go usage is quite inefficient when it comes to fuel consumption.
