I agree we need to create a better system, but you would also understand the importance of collective responsibility. The litter that’s on the streets today, it is not Tokunbo Wahab that dropped it there, it is we the residents. 6:30am to 8:30am is not even so much to be termed a lockdown because realistically how many people are productive during these hours on a Saturday. Once a month. We the residents need to take ownership of our surrounding, and when we’re seemingly in charge of the clean up, this could reduce the tendency to even continue the cycle. We are not there yet, but we can start from somewhere.

Shutting down a city of 20 million people to clean their immediate environment is parochial and lacks imagination. For emphasis: the issue is not so much about cleaning your environment (which is great) but the logistics of waste management - starting from the collection, to disposal and recycling. Anything short of rethinking this system is cosmetic and unimaginative.
