Having to mute posts because people can't read is a little frustrating. I feel like you should be able to deduce that I'm not saying "you shouldn't pay attention to plot" by the fact the conversation was about things you'd already finished...

there's probably a middleground somewhere between "community is a distraction for otaku and you do not need it" and "reading a lot of works is a waste of time because you dont remember it anyway". will the posters of the everything app be able to find it?

@WDEHMBro You seem to be overlooking the "forgetting things within a year" part. We aren't talking about forgetting everything within days whilst actively reading. We're talking about post-hoc. You're fighting an imagined phantom of what I've said instead of actually reading my words.

No offence, but retaining plot and lore details of something is not actually important. Like at all. Art is about how it emotionally resonates with you, it makes you feel things. The idea that you need to partake in social rituals and play memory games is odd!

@WDEHMBro We aren't talking about critics analyzing things, though. We're talking about the average person allowing art to make them feel things, in which case you do not need to maintain encyclopedic knowledge or remember specifics for longer than a year. Not a difficult concept.

@eccozones This take is completely retarded what are you talking about. If you want to actually analyze an artist’s intent you need to remember the plot, there’s some genres entirely built on the audience’s ability to pick up on details

If you read a book and it doesn't stick with you for years then that's okay. You don't need to try and "fix" this by engaging in fandom. Fandom activity is basically a seperate hobby.
