I went on a couple dates with a woman who told me that her dad asked a bunch of egg questions when she came out. And eventually told her that he always felt the same way. And said he never felt like he’d be a pretty girl, so he just kinda gave up on it.

I would simply like to say, Pride is a queer cultural space and anyone who can conduct themselves appropriately (or appropriately inappropriately) can attend. Wear sunscreen, hydrate, look out for each other.

@sbearbergman Have you noticed this is way different since the pandemic? I haven't observed it in the context of performing, but when I first started facilitating in-person groups again in like '22-'23 I was so perplexed by the new difficulty I had telling whether people were engaged.

Storytelling is such a living thing. It’s hard when people forget they have faces and just sit, slouched, not visibly reacting to anything, even when later they come up and shake my hand with all sorts of enthusiasm and compliment me and tell me how glad they were to be there.

I’ve been in so many threads of Jews and Palestinians agreeing and showing solidarity only to have non Jewish westerners come in to talk over both groups about the best way to combat the current genocidal actions of Israel

@hyuumanatees like yeah, for millennials who spent every spare moment on msn messenger on the family desktop, a lot of us did acquire pretty decent typing skills without being taught, even if we don't necessarily have proper technique. but if all your screens have been touchscreens? no way.

@hyuumanatees especially for people who are primarily accessing the internet/digital media via a phone or tablet screen, it's bonkers to assume this would give them any advantage with a keyboard.

So many elementary & middle schools are not teaching typing! My 90s-tastic "computers are the future" school started home row lessons in 3rd grade. Now "digital natives" in high school, college, & early career years are actually BEHIND. Qwerty is not intuitive, u gotta learn!

anyway i worry every day about how far away the future is but that's probably not the way to get there any faster.

i also think a lot about bayard rustin's words: "to be afraid is to behave as if the truth were not true." which i think might be the simplest statement that i absolutely believe.

in australia in 2015 i was at a liberal church chatting over coffee with an older white south african lady & she said she'd just been reading nelson mandela's autobiography, & "back then" she was so irritated by him but now she thought he made some good points.
