a fun use of science 🧬 I don’t drink much but I do enjoy an occasional drink and this might make it better

I love zooming out to see the big picture - and diving into the weeds and roots of a problem, as deep as it takes

the kind of maxxing I'm into: lifemaxxing. means different things to different people, but for me it's living intentionally, so when my time's up I'm happy and proud of how I spent it—and what I left behind

If you truly want the best for something, you may hold a firm position, but you're also willing and open to hearing and sharing arguments with others, right?

I love the saying in Spanish: “arrecho nunca muere, y si muere, muere arrecho”. In English it would be: “a badass never dies, and if they die, they die a badass”.

I wonder how students are completing writing assignments these days.

Had a very interesting conversation with 14 yo about when to use colons, semicolons, and dashes. It reminded me how important this is for good writing; there's a lot of information in those tiny glyphs.

At which point are we going to start drawing boundaries to avoid turning into a 1984, Big Brother-like dystopian society with mass surveillance, totalitarianism, and a lack of privacy or freedom? To me, smart glasses or pendants/accessories that can constantly record others without consent is where I'd draw a line. Similarly, I think stronger regulation is urgent—strict data-collection rules and encryption practices. I already feel too tracked as it is. We need to use our voices as citizens and our power as consumers to change the law and our reality before it's too late. A great read by George Orwell—or a great watch in Michael Radford's film adaptation—if you're not familiar with 1984:

One of the reasons I have been studying economics and finance recently is that, as an engineer, I can't help thinking of the economy, politics, and markets as something that should run on grounded concepts and data instead of personal beliefs, charisma, or favouritism.

An investment can be in the form of money, time, or energy. A return can also be (ideally) more money, more time or more energy.

@jaredforsyth a lot of what they’re doing can likely be automated so it does seem too long 😕

Why are credit card transactions on 'pending' mode for so long? I understand the batch-based settlement cycle. What I don't understand is why, in 2026, that cycle can't run instantly or in hours instead of multiple business days
