Plus even if he was “just Japanese but dark-skinned” would it also make no sense he doesn’t experience period typical colorism? Or is that too much to ask for in the series surrounding violent class based oppression

He uses a unique dialect and fighting style IN series. I was only peeved he hadn’t experienced more realistic struggles for the time period and i think that’s still important even if “his culture is already assimilated.”

@chaiwithnikolai @dodgedonke @aibouz_ I had assumed the fact that his heritage was also colonized and assimilated by Japan no matter how long ago that its still important to recognize him as being indigenous or at the very least not treated as a running gag. Its still an underutilized aspect of his character

@aibouz_ As far as i remember Its not addressed in the manga either, i don’t think…? It was my first read though but the anime also cuts out even more important characterization with him too. Absolutely bizarre they hate him so bad. Potential man

@finalbegin i'm an anime only (i plan to go back and read the manga once the final season is over) but I don't even remember them ever addressing the fact that Koito is indigenous directly which is crazy.

He tries hard to repress it too in series but most of the abuse he faces from others is about his wealth and privilege which is understandable, but it’s like Nods just entirely sidelined that other very important aspect of him. He could have been so much better written good god

Oh so his canonical ending arc is continuing the cycle of abuse against indigenous nations in the footsteps of his groomer despite the fact that he is indigenous himself and every mentioned aspect of his heritage is used as a running joke. IM MAD AS FUCK
