@friendlyfarmer @SmallerFishGAA I remember in 1988 Abbey made a championship out of it by losing and drawing the first two games and were actually on the verge of relegation before gloriously taking the scalps of Gort, Ballindereen and Athenry after a replay to win their maiden County Cup.

If you want to free up time in the season - something that is really needed.... Scrap the pre season competitions, put the provincials in January and you're gaining around 4 weekends. Let the league feed directly into the All Ireland series. This is the logical solution - instead they're suggesting scrapping national finals to gain 1 week 🤔

I cannot fathom anyone calling for the league finals to be scrapped. A chance for 8 counties, mostly weaker counties, to win a national title in Croke Park. Also, In 2023 - Mayo would have had division 1 won before the last round - Derry would have had division 2 won before the last round How exciting. It's mostly Ulster pundits that want to devalue the league even more in case counties don't take the Ulster championship seriously. They'd be happy with the league being one big pre season in the lead up to the Ulster championship.
