I’m so proud of the progress we have made even as we aim for even bolder goals. Growing up, maternal and child mortality were always explained away as mysterious phenomena, often wrapped in spiritual and cultural aspects.. when a mother died, maybe her father didn’t want her to marry the man, maybe the man hadn’t paid bride price, maybe her co-wife was complicit in the killing, maybe it was witchcraft, the list goes on and on…. Later on, the ministry of health declared a war on maternal and child mortality and the deaths have significantly decreased— why? Because science works. Instead we prioritized standardized care, integrated ANC services and the public health efforts have yielded better outcomes. This is what happens when we prioritize science, work together and beat false beliefs. We still have a lot to do, around infrastructural development, making access possible for all, training more health professionals, integrating traditional medicine with western medicine, working hand in hand with leaders from across the board. We can improve healthcare systems if we intentional about it. I’m so glad we’re here now, we can even do so much more.

I have just finalized drafting letters on the monetisation of digital platforms in Uganda, with particular emphasis on X (Twitter). These have been addressed to the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Cabinet. & State Ministries of ICT, the Executive Director of UCC, and a Member of Parliament who has expressed willingness to table the matter on the floor of Parliament. I will be delivering hard copies of these letters to the respective offices on Wednesday, and that is when I will be able to share the full details with you. On the same day, I will be hosted on Star TV in the early morning to discuss this subject. Thereafter, I will be meeting with a private sector player who is deeply passionate about Uganda’s digital transformation and has the networks and influence to help advance this cause. I will also visit the office of the State Minister for ICT, who has indicated that his office maintains an open-door policy. I’m hopeful and optimistic about the impact of this effort. 🙏 #BringStripeToUg
