Most of the major European cities were once walled… no one cared about the walls with the development of cannons. Walls were expensive to maintain and pretty much useless. But in China they kept most of the city walls but not against the enemy armies, Chinese wall-divided cities were planned to keep the citizens in check.

@RomeInTheEast Beautiful photo, beautiful place. But an atrocity to Roman heritage.

You can see old houses built directly into/onto the ancient Roman sea walls of Constantinople!

I’m quarter Meskhetian (Ahıska) and I know khinkali very well.. it’s my father’s one of favorite foods and we still cook “hingel” often. Khachapuri is another issue, it’s alien to us as it’s more associated with the coastal Eastern Black Sea regions. I just wanted to show that how easy it’s to ignite “food wars” in our geography :)
English

@gorchbey2 @RomeInTheEast @NoContextBrits Khachapuri has pure kartvelian origin, some georgians dont want to accept but we know about khinkali.

@greece_heritage @RomeInTheEast Your Greek racism is whitewashing your ancestors’ aggression. I’ve no comment on your hypocrisy anymore.
English

@gorchbey2 @RomeInTheEast 1) The modern era begins around that time...
2) Alexander did not fight some Egyptian or Anatolian, but the Persian Empire.
=As I said before, you’re making factually incorrect historical claims and then building a narrative around them to suit your argument. Sorry pal. Leave it

English

Also, the claim 'the empire was a shadow of its former glory, and we made Constantinople great again' its deeply disturbing.
It’s always repeated...by EVERYONE...as if a people only deserve their homeland while it’s thriving. If it declines, then conquest it’s justified! WTF??

Every time I post about 1453 I get a bunch of the same replies automatically trying to change the topic to 1204. Over the years it’s crazy how predictable and reliably formulaic these nationalist responses are. It’s always 1453->1204. Or Turkey is criticized so talk about Greece.

@gorchbey2 @RomeInTheEast @NoContextBrits Turks and greeks fighting over Levant/Mesopotamian food as usual 😂😂
English

@RomeInTheEast @NoContextBrits Of course, I’m just messing with you;)
English

So you say, I find the food wars silly. Food isn’t a patent, it’s a gradual evolution and it’s not clear often who came up with it. As an example baklava was invented in the Ottoman Empire, but by who? And that was just a modification of older things anyway.
I know Turks eat moussaka too but for me it’s a Greek tradition - as for you it’s a Turkish one
