@drumm_colin shy people are pretty attractive, and so are people who aren't thinking about options or social connections.

Oh you think sex is about power? Could never be me. Im only attracted to weak and unconfident people who lack access to resources, options, and social connections.

@drumm_colin point is that the people hearing those resonances are not idiots or making this up. just acknowledge it, and move on. that's all really.

Okay I'm starting to realize that when you people hear "power" you immediately think "BDSM" and this is just sort of a different thing. I'm not talking about bottoms and tops and doms and subs or any of that crap. You need to stop imposing that framing on everything.

@drumm_colin point is that you are theorizing this ordinary word. and that you are theorizing it the way that he does. also, he also says that its an ordinary word, but like you, shows how much work it does. so yes, you and foucault are making the same point about this "ordinary" word

@TherynDArnold @drumm_colin also the idea that power = how one chooses not to use it. i mean, you could just say, yeah to the foucault observation and move on, instead of making it seem like he was dumb and wrong to note it. you are literally doing history of sexuality speak here.

@drumm_colin mostly yes. power as productive, relational, dispersed, etc. it’s the only one that makes sense. Nietzschean, Hobbesian, not sure if those really work?

What makes sex sexy is that it's an open ended negotiation of a power relationship that hasn't yet been fully decided about where exactly things will settle. That's also why it's difficult to maintain excitement in long term relationships where the settling has already occurred.
