I’m sure that girl and her fans didn’t expect this much backlash from those variants. She and her team probably thought it would be business as usual. A few hateful comments here and there, the media and her fans praising her to high heavens, and headlines about how she’s the greatest thing since sliced bread with no competition. Imagine breaking a huge sales record, and everyone from the media, including outlets like CNN that have never dragged her, are calling it fraudulent. Then social media fandoms join in, dragging her and her music. Her fans aren’t helping either. They keep bringing up her numbers to defend her and prove she’s better than other artists, which only brings more attention to her tactics. Now everyone is questioning those numbers, mocking her music, pointing out her lack of range, vocals, and performance, and asking whether the fame is real or just PR. People are even asking if her songs are as well-known as her fans and the media made them out to be. It’s wild. If that second-week drop is true, it’s going to be brutal. I really wonder what the tipping point was this era. It couldn’t have just been the variants cos she’s been doing that for years. I’m genuinely curious.
