It's really that damn phone It's so easy to become radicalized, frustrated, and reactive when you're addicted to all of it. The constant news cycle, endless comparisons, and daily extremes genuinely take a toll on your mind — on mine, at least. I need to step away from all of it.

I keep seeing people complain about the price, so I’m throwing in my two cents: I dunno if you knew this, but.. IT IS A PC!! It’s not a console, it’s far more powerful than that, and far cheaper than literally most pre-built gaming PCs. Hecc, it’s about $200 cheaper than what my hand-built was, and that PC’s 7 years old now! Plus, the Steam Machine can literally be used like a PC, which is incredible! So TL;DR It’s a super affordable PC that’s roughly the size of the GameCube (if not smaller), not an overpriced console. If you say otherwise, I’m gonna cry I swear. Also: it not including a controller? Yeah, because it’s a PC and (presumably) assumes you have a mouse and keyboard already and maybe a controller. Don’t have a controller but want to play with one? Go to Goodwill and get a wired Logitech one for like $12, it’ll treat you well I promise. That’s my rant for the year, love y’all 💖🥰

Steam Machine is a beautiful product at the wrong price. At 750–800€, it could revive living-room PC gaming. At 1,039€, it becomes a premium mini-PC for Valve loyalists.

The Steam Controller succeeded because 99€ felt like a steal. Steam Machine at 1,039€ does not feel like a steal. It feels like “I am paying for the privilege of a very elegant compromise.”

It is tiny. It is official Valve hardware. It is tuned for SteamOS. It likely has excellent suspend/resume and couch UX. It has controller integration. It can run as a real Linux PC. It gives access to Steam sales, mods, emulation, non-Steam apps, and less locked-down ownership.

The problem is brutally simple: people compare boxes by price and FPS. Not by ecosystem philosophy. Not by openness. Not by Proton compatibility. They see:

PS5: cheaper. PS5 Pro: still cheaper or similar depending region. Steam Machine: more expensive. Performance: around PS5-ish, sometimes worse. Then their caveman consumer brain says: “why pay more?”

If u want maximum FPS per euro, build a PC. If u want a living-room Steam console with minimal bullshit, Steam Machine makes sense. If u want both, build an AMD PC in a compact case and install Bazzite first, then switch to official SteamOS later when desktop support is mature.

If Steam Machine 512GB is really 1,039€, Valve is not robbing people. For a normal ATX PC, you can beat it on price. For a compact console-like PC, Valve is probably competitive. For an actually tiny, optimized living-room SteamOS box, Valve might even be cheaper than DIY.
