#socialhousing is a hot topic of debate amongst progressives, with multiple state and local governments passing, working on or considering legislation. The issue is, there is a disconnect between the stated aims and technical forms being pursued. shelterforce.org/2024/09/10/wer…

President Claudia Sheinbaum has just sent a bill to Congress banning GMO corn, declaring maize a cornerstone of Mexican national identity, and enshrining agroecological practices as mandatory. No GMO poison. No glyphosate. This is food sovereignty and environmental justice in practice.
Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo@Claudiashein

Iniciativa de reforma constitucional enviada al Congreso de la Unión. El maíz es un elemento de identidad nacional, cuyo cultivo debe ser libre de transgénicos, priorizando su manejo agroecológico.

According to CPS officials, ICE agents were turned away from Hamline Elementary Schools. This is the power of a union contract that fights for everyone. In 2019 we won sanctuary provisions for our schools & we will work together to protect our students and communities. blockclubchicago.org/2025/01/24/ice…

This is such irresponsible disinformation @thehill: "In total, the Biden administration has now spent $183.6 billion to forgive student loans." There is no ***spending*** involved in cancelling a debt. Like it literally involves $0 of spending. thehill.com/homenews/educa…

In poor and working-class neighborhoods, tenants will be hit with harassment, frivolous 3-day notices, and baseless evictions. THEN the landlords will price-gouge, and the former tenants will become homeless. EVICTION MORATORIUM NOW
oscar uriel ☭@outta_papeles

this map shows where all the rent gouging incidents have been happening in LA. not many in working-class neighborhoods but that's probably to be expected. i thought the wealthy ownership class would have each others back. thought wrong. capitalism is so deeply predatory.

Feels timely to reshare this platform I worked on w @ourcityRTTC that offers some shape to the question of: what does the policy fight and trajectory at the intersection of housing, climate and land justice look like? drive.google.com/file/d/1TB23Y3…
Albert Pinto@70sBachchan

4/ Housing policy IS Climate policy. Over last 3 decades, 32 million new homes were built in fire prone WUI, where 1/3 of all wildfires started. "Consequences of Human-Ignited Wildfires to Homes in US (1992–2015)" mdpi.com/2571-6255/3/3/… sacbee.com/news/investiga…

What’s currently happening in Los Angeles is exactly what we have been warning about. The consistent defunding of other city programs in order to give the LAPD billions a year has consequences.

@PEWilliams_ That’s the wrong question and it valorizes white institutions and white ways of knowing and being and structuring society in really problematic ways.

The answer to the housing crisis is not “more housing”, it is “more PUBLIC housing”. And we can start by protecting what we have left.

Whose intention? The real estate finance class wins at least twice over. From taking over control of the props w signif state subsidy in tact albeit reworked, to jacking up priv market rents unendingly knowing that people have no where else to go.

@Shane135792 @FecStop13647 Section 8 is not public housing. And these “guarantees” have not manifested elsewhere. What’s your stake in this? Why go against what residents themselves are saying?
