How does the hippocampus moderate reactivation following learning? We identified a hippocampal circuit mechanism which seems to play this role- and it’s driven by CA2! Check below for a summary of our recent results from this week's @ScienceMagazine science.org/doi/10.1126/sc… 1/

Happy have made a small contribution to this exciting study on the neural circuit mechanisms mediating anxiolytic effects of serotonergic psychedelics. With @karaba08!
Vidita Vaidya@ViditaVaidya

Really glad to have this work identifying the key role of PV-neurons in the ventral hippocampus in gating the anxiolytic actions of the serotonergic psychedelic, DOI, out in @NeuroCellPress @TIFRScience sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

@Yashiro_Isana_X @ScienceMagazine Glad you enjoyed! Because this is in mice it's hard to know if it has a connection with dreams, but we see neural patterns that were active in wake recurring in non-REM sleep in sharp-wave ripples, which supports memory consolidation. You might find this literature interesting!

@karaba08 @ScienceMagazine I'm always super fascinated by science like this, especially when I read the article. So, would dreams more or less be a way your brain stores action as a memory? I likely don't know nearly enough on the subject. But another curiosity is what's happening when you lucid dream?

@Ella_Maru @ScienceMagazine Thanks, Ella! Great question. Short answer is we don't know, but potentially! Because we see specific modulation of task-relevant cells within BARRs, it's certainly possible that they also play a role in helping prioritize what information is maintained vs forgotten.

@karaba08 @ScienceMagazine Congrats, Lindsay! Could BARRs play a role in selective memory weakening or forgetting, particularly for less relevant information?

With that, I want to give a HUGE shoutout to my co-first author @heathlarsson, PIs @azayhara and @antferrui, and additional authors @ryaneharvey and @YYC356. This wouldn’t have been possible without them and their unmatched passion for rigorous science and cool results. 14/
