@leothrix the more you learn about unix the more you realize your system is architected no better than the government and it works in spite of itself

Tangentially related to the systemd user record discourse; I wrote some Rust last year that integrated with userdb/homed and it’s really nice Did you know traditional unix accounts expire with day granularity but userdb accounts use real timestamps? Yeah, it’s a lot better

@GrowlerEnjooyer I agree that age verification in the OS is dumb; but if systemd can have some primitive under our control then if vendors like Canonical want to bend the knee, they can go for it, and the rest of us can have total visibility into it to keep it accountable

@GrowlerEnjooyer > larger set of changes that are being put in place So we agree there aren’t any in systemd nor even in Linux general yet Look, I hate the laws too and will drop any OS that starts doing verification but trying to smear systemd when it isn’t there just wastes energy

I’m hearing that Linux has a field to store your _real_ name (not username!!!) in an /etc/passwd field Now on the search for a distribution that doesn’t buy into this breach of personal information 😔

Out of all the new casting I think Anya Taylor-Joy has the most potential to really land her character Alia is such an unhinged role and Taylor-Joy has always felt like an actress that can flex into weird roles

The monkey’s paw is that as I become more well-versed in systemd administration, both launchd and windows services are so horrible by contrast they feel increasingly impossible to use

My latest hardening experiments are making use of some additional systemd options for networking control and it’s very powerful Essentially firewall-like control per daemon and the ability to shore up services that lack the ability to do things like bind to specific interfaces

The Legoland trip: success 6yo and 3yo boys are a pretty prime time for Legoland activities; just the right level for those ages. Also I ate incredible shrimp tacos in San Diego

systemd may be adding a user birth date field but they’ll never get mine, 3,000 years ago but still in the physical body of a 13-year-old dragonkin Japanese girl

@theodorvaryag On more than one occasion a ride operator held up the crowd to calm down nervous kids so they could ride. Nobody complained and usually applauded the kids when they finally got on Obviously a park full of parents and employees with specific directions, haha

Unexpected but not surprising that the kid-optimized attractions at Legoland are not well-suited for the taller among us I’ve had to fold my legs into non-Euclidean geometry to fit into some of these rides

@HSVSphere yeah this seems like a much more preferable option rather than some horrible glowie kernel module or something. Much more visible Although I’m going to dread reading about complaints about this for the next six months

Some of the plot lines in Wise Man’s Fear fit snugly into certain tropes but are so well-executed that it feels like I’m enjoying the broad concepts for the first time again
