once again i’ll say it’s very silly to me that some anime fans can suspend their disbelief enough to not question magic, monsters, and crazy unrealistic fights but the moment there’s any canon or implied lgbt characters or themes, it’s suddenly too hard for them to accept
i think maybe the biggest confusion comes from the idea that many ppl don’t separate sex and gender as separate things so i think there’s a misunderstanding there
@Fearsstaplin similarly i agree with OP that shija does not see themself as a woman despite OP headcanoning them as a bio female. this isn’t to say they’re not biologically female, but we have no real proof either way.
@maromallow This whole push for Shona to be nonbinary is so confusing to me, I think this Reddit post explains why she’s lost likely female really well: reddit.com/r/jigokuraku/s…
kinda sad that ppl get super weird and homophobic/transphobic abt a story w canon lgbt characters and INSIST everyone is straight and cis but there’s like 7 genderfluid flower gods, a non binary insane gothic ninja, a bisexual alcoholic, etc
@Fearsstaplin you can read my explanation in the tweets under this one but i think it’s important that shija, while some may say is biologically female (which i don’t rly mind or care) remains genderless. i don’t rly wanna retype it but i have no qualms w ppl assigning a sex. it’s abt gender
@maromallow Jigo is one of the few series where I dont think anyone shouldn't be able to understand the lgbtq theming in it and its so unbelievable how this is happening😭😭
@Bwui51 actually the edo period was quite accepting of gay relationships and had a varied concept of gender as it predated a lot of western concepts of gender and sex. in fact, gay sex was pretty popular among samurai and others. there’s plenty of sources for that information.
@Bwui51 but this is shown as a pleasurable act and sometimes a homosexual one. i can’t confidently say “oh they’re all gay” but i can say the tensen aren’t bound to things like gender, which inherently makes them exist outside the concept of “straightness” or cisgenderism
@Bwui51 the tensen i would say are up to interpretation but by virtue of the fact that they’re not even human, i would say they transcend the boundaries of gender. they switch sexes, but gender doesn’t seem to be a big thing for them. and yes it’s bochu jutsu-
