I took the Barbican engagement bait and now my feed is filled with tweets from random 'architecture critics' (underworked grad students?) about how you're not "ensouled" or whatever if you don't like Barbican. Fell for it again award recipient

I went on a tour of the Barbican in December and found it quite hideous in person - the concrete is discolored, the layout is labyrinthine and hostile, the Riviera-envy of it all just doesn't work in the City of London. It's also not technically brutalist (in the sense of béton brut) -- the concrete was hand-finished by hundreds of workers, many of whom later died from health complications caused by inhaling the silica dust.
