Is Ukraine's land invasion of Crimea beginning? Ukrainian troops have raised the national flag over the Kinburn Spit in Mykolaiv Oblast, a territory that had been under Russian occupation since 2022. According to the military, Russian forces retreated under heavy fire and are continuing to evacuate surviving personnel while abandoning their defensive positions.

This is the reality when a nation is occupied from both sides by Germans and Russians and the resistance refuses to give up. The same messy history exists in Ukraine, and it's OK. Poland and Ukraine suffered greatly during WW2, millions slaughtered by both the Germans and the Russians. The two nations have very similar painful histories in this regard, and the brave people who fought on for their country opportunistically leveraged one evil against the other, as both evils occupied their land and slaughtered their people. Poland and Ukraine both survived WW2. Many lives were saved thanks to these brave partisans - including the Polish NSZ and the Ukrainian UPA. Poland is a thriving successful nation today, and Ukraine unfortunately has to fight and bleed, again, to repel the Russian invaders, again. Whenever you see Poles ignorant of their own history attacking Ukraine's WW2 history, you can just cite this post. Between 8 and 10 million Ukrainians are estimated to have been killed by both the Germans and the Russians during WW2.
