A brilliant summation of why, despite the incredible advances in wind and solar, we still need to move faster to phase out fossil fuels. From SEG's @mpunktjansen in @ConversationUK. Read it here:➡️t.ly/_olCX

For the first time ever, wind power generated the largest share of Britain’s electricity over the first three months of 2023, ending the 100+ year reign of fossil fuels as the country’s largest source of power. 💨

It took us 40 years to get us to 1TW of wind. We must rollout in the next TW in the next decade. #GlobalWindDay @GWECGlobalWind @SPRU @EnergyFuturesIC @SussexNRGGroup
Dr Iain Staffell@iain_staffell

Celebrate 🌍 #GlobalWindDay 💨 Wind power capacity will exceed 1 TW this year! Capacity is important, but how much energy it produces (and when) really matters. You can model hourly output of wind (& solar) anywhere in the world with 🥷 renewables.ninja 🥷

A new report shows wind has become the UK's main source of electricity for the first time, a major step towards net zero. SEG's @mpunktjansen, one of the report's co-authors, explains what this means on this radio interview (segment begins at 1:02) cbc.ca/listen/live-ra…

CEP visiting researcher Malte Jansen (@mpunktjansen) helped co-author a UKERC report on the effect of transitioning to offshore wind on market signals! @IC_CEP
UKERC@UKERCHQ

Published today! This report explores how uncertainty around the structure of a future decarbonised energy system introduces risk which can significantly increase the cost of reaching #netzero. It specifically looks at the case for offshore wind. bit.ly/41lSsen Thread 👇

The @UKERCHQ's latest report delves into the fascinating topic of transition risk in energy systems. Our very own @mpunktjansen is one of the report's contributors. Check it out!

@MLiebreich @adamrbruce @afneil It's not the treasury earning hundreds of millions, but the British consumers. Alas, as long as the energy price guarantee is in place, this will not directly reduce the electricity, but reduce the future tax burden.

So @afneil, will you point out to your followers that over the past month wind generated 45% of UK electricity, with gas & coal at just 18%? High price was down to gas's role as marginal source of supply - and meant that treasury earned £ hundreds of millions from renewable CfDs.
