@anon_opin But also rubbish compared to the Vauxhall Cavalier which had better, more modern engines, more space and better suited to a family.

The best car design ever was the Ford Escort Mk II. Affordably chic, it was never properly appreciated in its lifetime.

Even though Europe has about 220 million more people than America, America has significantly more large urban areas. European cities are denser and more spacially compact, but American metropolitan regions tend to contain more people.

@RobR44133618 @ThatEricAlper Ireland is more visibly metric than Britain (speed limits, distance, milk) but many people over 40 use imperial often, for clothes sizes, distanc, weight, & of course NI is still mpg, pints of milk. In UK you can often use either imperial/ metric or both, in butchers shops etc.

@ThatEricAlper Britain is very like Canada. Mixed systems. By law, distances are miles, except horse races, which are furlongs. Weights & measures are officially metric, but older people think imperial. Beer, in a pub, is sold in pints. But in the supermarket, in litres. U need to know both.

1969 Vauxhall Victor FD Estate 3300 The Vauxhall Victor was produced in a range of models between 1957 and 1976 and replaced the outgoing Wyvern and FC cars. Taking itโ€™s styling cues from the contemporary, so called, โ€œcoke bottleโ€ designs emerging from Detroit, the FD series Victor (and VX4/90 and Ventora models) were based on the new Opel Rekord floorpan and offered the first mass produced belt driven overhead cam 1599cc and 1975cc engines. First shown at the 1967 British Motor Show, the FD Victor saloon was dubbed โ€œcar of the showโ€. The 3300 estate came along in 1968 and was the only Victor offered on the domestic market with the 3.3 litre engine borrowed from the Cresta. The FD range briefly became Britainโ€™s most exported car. Less FD cars were made due in part to ongoing strike action and a reduction in export markets during the early 1970โ€™s. Research suggests only 693 Victor 3300 estate cars were built. When you consider that most Vauxhallโ€™s of this generation literally dissolved in the British weather, this extremely rare example is definitely a survivor and worthy of admiration.

@ninjarifter @sportandstuffs @eoinyk Because its roads are narrow and choked by cars, with only a very limited suburban rail network. I live 4 miles from the centre & it takes an hour on the bus (vs 20 minutes on a bike). Many people including students have commutes over 1.5h each way, terrible for a city this size.

@sportandstuffs @eoinyk Why? And if it does why just one line, it probably needs at least four in that case. Use the 20 billion to provide higher speed rail to the other cities and people will move out of Dublin, guaranteed
