How do you stand out in a crowded querying field? 1) Have lucky timing & be pitching "the thing" everyone currently wants. 2) understand how to communicate that strong hook & IMPORTANTLY the stakes in your query 3) have a strong opening paragraph that creates interest & context.

If you're querying & thinking, "I can't wait for the agent to get to chapter three" or maybe "page 7," then you have a 1st-pages problem. You have to engage from sentence one. You legitimately may only have a few paragraphs or to the end of page one to engage an agent's attention
