Her story became, for me, a way into John 20 and the story of the disciple Thomas: a message for those carrying grief, pain, fear, or longing, and for all who need the scarred Christ who meets people where they are and as they are.

This morning it was humbling to preach and to center the story of "Janie," a pediatric patient of mine whose life remains with me still. In the darkest moments imaginable, Janie made a hospital room capable of receiving light again.
