28/ The source of this bug is often peeking through the veil-like armor of equations with fast-mutating variables: “I’m vaccinated. I have earned my indoor mask-free strolls through the store!” C’mon, we know better. Science deserves better.

16/ Some variation of 👆 was our hellish Groundhog Day for 2 months, even though we had access to an amazing doctor—a first principles type who knows well the half-life of medical knowledge and stays on top of stuff. Still, it was *brutal*.

7/ Probabilistically, she was in the worst bracket. Elderly, type 2 diabetes, cancer survivor. We knew this, so we flipped the odds in her favor: we convinced her to isolate in Mar 2020. When she contracted COVID, she’d self-isolated in her apartment for 14 months straight. GOAT.

6/ My mom was unvaccinated when she caught COVID. Vaccine shortages in India, and the few overcrowded vaccine sites open at the time were paradoxically also spreading infection. We were trying to figure out how to safely get her a shot when she told us that she had a fever.
