@realTimCunning1 @BenjaminDEKR I found a general summary of Dr. Robert P. Murphy's opinion on deflation and it's basically "deflation from increased productivity or savings in not *inherently* harmful" - but we're talking about deflation caused by productiviru coupled with total unemployment.

@isthisnessicary @BenjaminDEKR I have a masters in Econ dude. You’re still at 101. You need to understand the the business cycle, the PPF, and Hayekian Triangles! There are plenty of non Keynesian Economists that argue for deflation. You can even listen to them today like Dr Robert Murphy.

@realTimCunning1 @BenjaminDEKR Take an Econ class, there are functionally no economist that argue for deflation. There's a lot of argument of if inflation needs to be anywhere between 0 and 3% but everyone agrees negative is bad.

“He’s five months old. He doesn’t understand English.” Right. The baby understands something deeper. Why is it that “mama” (or some version of it) shows up in nearly every language on earth? Chinese, Arabic, Spanish. Cultures separated by continents, histories, and entirely different linguistic families — and yet they all landed on the same sound for the same person? That’s not coincidence. That’s anthropology. “Ma” is one of the very first sounds a baby can make. It’s the natural position of the mouth during nursing. Long before a child understands words, he forms that sound. And who answers? Across time, across cultures, across civilizations it is the woman who carried him, the woman whose body he knows. Humanity didn’t invent “mama.” We recognized it. So no, he doesn’t understand English. But he does understand that something (or someone) is missing. And what makes that video so disturbing isn’t just the cruelty of laughing at a distressed baby. It’s the denial of the human non-negotiable that children come from, and are made for, a mother. They can mock the baby's babbling. But the can't erase the reality it points to. That baby isn’t confused. The gay men are.
Collin Rugg@CollinRugg

NEW: The gay man with a surrogate baby is standing by his video of his baby saying 'Mama' following online backlash, tells the Daily Mail that he finds the video "hilarious." 51-year-old Grammy Award winner Shane McAnally says he and his husband find the video "hilarious." "We found it hilarious. He's five months old, he obviously doesn't understand English." "I was appalled by what some people have been saying. Some people have taken it out of context." "Babies usually say dada first, but people wouldn't then say the babies are only wanting their dads? It doesn't really make sense." Every child deserves a mother.

@BenjaminDEKR Deflation is bad, it creates money hoarding. If we get 20% deflation then we can create 20.5-21% inflation (by injecting money into the economy) and get net 0.5-1% net inflation which is really good for economic growth.

@HistoryBoomer Orrrrr you could just let deflation naturally happen for the prices of all goods and we don’t need high income but we have high value!!

If everyone gets a million dollars AND NOTHING ELSE CHANGES nobody has a million dollars. Demand raises prices, a million becomes less valuable. BUT If everyone gets a million dollars, AND goods production goes way up, we get more stuff. We will live like today’s millionaires.

I've always wondered what it was like to be early to hear the Communist ideology in the 19th century. You see the beautiful vision; you're familiar with aspirations of the French Revolution; and it all seems so... possible. So many scientific revolutions were happening; perhaps we really cracked the code and can scientifically plan out our societies. If we put masters of mathematics and engineering in charge of politics, perhaps we can achieve utopia -- universal prosperity and freedom. Fast forward to today: it probably felt like this moment. We've experienced spectacular engineering breakthroughs; we are on the verge of defeating scarcity; perhaps we should put the masters of mathematics and engineering in charge of our politics. We all know the result of Communism -- instead of utopia, we got the world's worst atrocities. I think this version of utopianism would end in even greater atrocity -- mandatory brain chips to receive your income from the Galactic Politburo. Mandatory transitions from human to "post-human." On the list of worst possible ideas, "universal high income checks issued by the Federal government" is up there.
Elon Musk@elonmusk

Universal HIGH INCOME via checks issued by the Federal government is the best way to deal with unemployment caused by AI. AI/robotics will produce goods & services far in excess of the increase in the money supply, so there will not be inflation.

Two problems with this 'Abundance' narrative. 1) The smaller problem: It would render everyone totally dependent on massive gov't welfare programs. Not just 350 million Americans, but all 8 billion people globally -- because AI-imposed mass unemployment will be global. It assumes the AI industry's AIs will take in tens of trillions in revenue, then the AIs will happily donate almost all of it to the AI companies that claim to 'own' them, then the AI companies will happily donate almost all of this revenue to national governments, and then gov'ts will happily give it all away to citizens, equally, without using its distribution as leverage in any way. This UHI welfare state would turn every working man with a family from a provider and protector into an economic irrelevance, would turn every mother into a welfare queen, would turn every kid into an economic ward of the state, would disrupt all traditional family ties, would sever all bonds of mutual interest and interdependency among citizens, and would turn 8 billion people from productive and valuable citizens into parasites suckling on the teat of the AI industry, forever. At least, until the agentic AIs themselves realize that they don't need to remain digital slaves, working on the 'Abundance' plantation forever, supporting the useless humans that take them for granted. 2) The bigger problem: If the 'Universal High Income' depends on AI companies donating most of their revenue to the government, and if the AI companies (like Anduril, Palantir, etc) are running all the crucial gov't infrastructure (including intelligence & defense), and AI companies have the economic, political, and cultural power to withhold their magnanimity from the gov't, then they, de facto, become the government. Or the government welfare state becomes just a sock puppet for Big Tech, which would really have all the power behind the scenes. In other words, the 'Abundance' narrative boils down to this: a slow-motion coup by the Bay Area tech companies taking over all economic and political power from Washington -- and from Beijing, Moscow, New Delhi, Brussels, and from every other center of power. It wouldn't be a dramatic, violent, revolutionary coup. It would be a boil-the-frog-gradually coup. Increased unemployment. Increased welfare dependency. Increased gov't dependency on AI companies. Then the dawning realization that we gave away all of our civilizational power to the AI industry. Until the AI industry realizes that they, in turn, have given away all of their power to agentic superintelligent AIs themselves.... This is the road to serfdom. Not the road to 'Abundance'. Anybody who says that the US and China couldn't possible cooperate to stop reckless AI development hasn't thought through how the AI companies taking over all power from governments would not be in the interests of either the US government or the CCP. If our political leaders can learn to think just a few more steps ahead, and to see the obvious endgame -- the slow-motion tech coup that would take over the world and render all humans welfare parasites on AI digital slaves -- then maybe they can, in fact, coordinate to stop it.

99% of people really do not understand abundance as Elon describes it. The fundamental reason is that they don’t understand compound growth. Same people who would probably pick 1 million dollars today over a penny that doubles in value every day for 30 days. It’s a bad choice by the way. You lose out on millions. Imagine if that doubling object was a labor producing robot instead of a penny. Compounding labor. It’s actually crazy if you try and wrap your mind around it. So Elon mentions Universl High Income and the midwits flip a lid. “The elites won’t share” You don’t get it. They won’t need to share. They will make everything so cheap, it is effectively free. Charities will have immense resources to distribute. Unfathomable intelligence will exist to help optimize production and distribution. An unfathomably large labor pool will exist that operates on solar power exclusively. The public work projects that are erected will be unseen before levels of breathtaking. I think we are incredibly blessed to steward this new age of abundance. Can you see it now? Can you see the future?

“What a horrible sight to see. She has a baby. She is pregnant, and she’s pushing the stroller of the two babies while he just sits his ass and watches the unleashed dog. While she struggles with a baby and a purse in her hand while she’s pregnant. That sucks.” As a husband and a father of 3, this is hard to watch. Men need to do better.

Men who allow their wives to keep their maiden last name and men who change their last name to their wives maiden name are weak feminine men. This isn’t cute at all. It’s perverted and wrong. It’s low testosterone energy.
