*UPDATE* - Formal Complaints Raised Following North Yorkshire Police PSD Referrals As many of you know, following reports that nine graduate police officers were referred to the Professional Standards Department (PSD) by Chief Constable Tim Forber for alleged uniform breaches during their passing-out parade, I submitted a formal complaint to both North Yorkshire Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner and the National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC). My position has been clear from the outset: this was not a proportionate response. Given the well-documented link between PSD investigations and officer mental health deterioration, including suicide - I believe this action was wholly disproportionate and an abuse of power. While I have not yet received a response from the NPCC, I have heard back from the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, who has confirmed that dialogue with the NPCC is now ongoing. Furthermore, this morning I have submitted an official complaint to the The Police Treatment Centres, where Chief Constable Forber serves as a Director. My view is that his recent actions are incompatible with the values and purpose of an organisation whose mission is to promote the welfare and mental health of police officers. Chief Constable Forber’s approach appears to contradict several pieces of national guidance on leadership, proportionality, and wellbeing: HMICFRS – “Police Officer and Staff Wellbeing, Mental Health and Welfare” Report (2019) “We continue to see examples of officers being investigated for matters that could have been dealt with by management advice or reflective practice.” “This can have a damaging impact on the individual’s mental health and confidence in the organisation.” NPCC & College of Policing – “Policing Vision 2030” and “Wellbeing Framework” (Oscar Kilo) “Proactive, compassionate, and proportionate leadership that values psychological safety and fosters a supportive culture.” NPCC & College of Policing – “Reflective Practice Review Process (RPRP)” Guidance (2020) “The RPRP is designed to deal with practice or performance that does not amount to misconduct or gross misconduct but would benefit from reflection, learning and improvement.” “It aims to move away from a blame culture and towards a learning culture.” College of Policing – Code of Ethics: “Fairness and Respect” “We act with self-control and tolerance, treating members of the public and colleagues with respect and courtesy. We do not abuse our powers or authority and recognise the impact of our words and actions on others.” By disregarding these national standards and welfare principles, Chief Constable Forber’s actions demonstrate a style of leadership that risks further damaging officer morale and mental wellbeing, precisely what these frameworks were designed to protect. I will continue to monitor developments and keep you updated as the NPCC and the Police Treatment Centres respond to these concerns

@sportwales @sqwales With respect glass courts play significantly differently to brick/back courts our youngster development for international amateur and professional competition or Olympic is severely disadvantaged. Thank you for your acknowledgement though

@squashr @sqwales Hi Ray, While glass squash courts might look attractive, the squash facilities at the National Centre are of an international standard so don't need upgrading. Glass squash courts also wouldn’t be practical/possible due to the layout of the building. Diolch!
