I am in a safe place. I am broken hearted and shaken by the senseless act taken against Rep Hortman and Sen Hoffman and their families. Melissa was a great public servant and her exceptional leadership brought the state of Minnesota progress despite crises of our lifetime.

My heart goes out to the families and friends of Speaker Hortman and Sen Hoffman. My hope and prayers are for a speedy recovery to Sen Hoffman and his wife. I know the families of Speaker Hortman and her husband Mark are in great pain today, it is my hope their love & memories will live forever. My entire elected life has been in service in partnership with John and Melissa, they were always there to take calls and support the needs of our community. They are and were true partners and public servants in every way!!!

6/ Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband were killed in the overnight shooting. Senator John Hoffman and his wife were shot multiple times but are expected to survive. A manhunt for the suspect is ongoing. A manifesto was in the suspect's vehicle containing a list of names.

Heartbroken over the deaths of Rep Melissa Hortman & her husband Mark, and the critical conditions of Sen John Hoffman & his wife Yvette. They are more than dear friends, but also some of the greatest public servants I have ever known. Violence has no place in our democracy.

I saw @melissahortman last night as she was leaving the Humphrey Mondale dinner. She was wearing a pant suit, smiling and strolling purposefully out of the room the way someone fully in their power does. This is how I will remember her. Rest in peace, Speaker!

BREAKING: Multiple sources tell 5 Eyewitness News at least two MN state lawmakers were shot at their homes last night by a gunman impersonating a police officer. DFL Speaker Emerita Melissa Hoffman in Brooklyn Park and DFL Sen. John Hoffman in Champlin. Working on more details.
