@PowerUpAttorney They had a planned shutdown. I assume it became too expensive to upkeep. :(

Goodbye to Web Captioner. They were my favorite captioning software I've used for more than half my career now as a content creator. I still haven't found a captioning software that is as fast, accurate, and easy to use as what they made. Good night, sweet prince. I'll miss you

@SordaTia Unfortunately leaving Web Captioner live in a "not updated" state is bad from a security perspective, where regular updates are needed to keep things secure. I have listed alternatives to Web Captioner at webcaptioner.com.

@webcaptioner I am a deaf person, your application helped me a lot and it is the best subtitling I have ever seen. I am very saddened by its closure. 😭😭 Is there no possibility to leave it open even if it doesn't update?

@talk2MeGooseman Happy to open source it. It’s a bit of a ”product of its time” being a Nuxt 2 app mostly written 2017-2019, but there are certainly some interesting bits in it that I never really brought to their full potential. Hopefully someone will enjoy looking through it and/or using it.

@webcaptioner Sad to see you go @webcaptioner and thank you for your hard work. Also thanks for open sourcing the code. I may have to now offer browser based captions since I can’t refer them to you but open sourcing the code could help a ton getting similar ui functionality. Thanks a lot!

@t_hargen Web Captioner does not require making an account in order to start captioning. Anybody is welcome to go to webcaptioner.com/captioner and begin captioning without creating an account.
