…After almost 3 years in the UK 🇬🇧 Last night I almost wrote my will because of UK thunder and lightning 😭⚡🇬🇧 I slept off peacefully after 11pm thinking I was going to have a sweet summer night sleep (not actually sweet cause the heat is excess and my fan was in full blast). But, something woke me up suddenly. I grabbed my phone to check the time… 0:43am. Before my eyes could even adjust properly, GBAMMMMMM!!!! 😭⚡ I don’t even know if it was the thunder clap or the lightning reflection bouncing from my wardrobe mirrors but fear gripped my soul instantly. The moment I checked my phone, one thought entered my head: “What if lightning enters this phone???” I immediately dragged the phone off charging point and threw my phone on the floor like it was the problem 😭. I turned off the fan immediately… I ran straight into my toddler’s bed but even my toddler was sleeping peacefully but then I was there thinking: “Tonight might actually be my last night on earth.” 😭😩😨🙀 The thunder ⚡️⚡️ was not joking AT ALL. Every clap sounded like heaven and earth were fighting. At one point I genuinely thought the house would catch fire.🔥 I wanted to call My Oga but I was too scared to touch my phone again cause in my mind the phone had suddenly become a conductor for lightning 😭 So instead, I carried my toddler and ran into the other room because it was darker, the curtains were thicker and there were no mirrors there reflecting lightning like spiritual warfare 😭 We laid on the bed but the thunder still refused to stop. That was when I suddenly remembered my colleague warned me earlier yesterday: “There will be a thunderstorm and lightning tonight.” And I said: “How can there be thunderstorm in the middle of summer when the sun outside is hot enough to fry egg??” She said: “It’s normal in this country.” NORMAL??? 😭 In Nigeria, if thunder and lightning starts, at least the rain will be serious enough to explain the drama. But this UK own? You people will have sunshine all day, then by midnight the sky starts behaving like Avengers Endgame 😭⚡ As I remembered our conversation, my mind calmed down just a tiny bit. Then suddenly I remembered… MY MICROWAVE. THE ELECTRIC APPLIANCES. EVERYTHING WAS STILL PLUGGED DOWNSTAIRS 😭 I looked toward the stairs and saw the bulb twitching small small. My dear, that was the end for me. I was NOT going downstairs. If the microwave wants to survive, let it survive by itself 😭 I just held the bed tightly and started praying: “God please let me survive this horrible night.” 😭 I stayed awake till around 2am. I don’t even remember when I slept again. Only for me to wake up by 6am, look through the garden and discover… the rain that caused all this drama was just tiny small rain 😭 You mean THIS tiny rain almost sent me to heaven??? Honestly people living in countries with real natural disasters are very strong and deserve respect because this experience alone traumatised me 😭 And honestly, those of us from Nigeria with almost zero natural disasters should actually be grateful because ahhh… this UK thunder and lightning experience was NOT funny at all 😭⚡
