An inspired development which has breathed new life in to the interpretation of Roman History in Leicester. It also backs on to Welles Street - named after my 17th Century ancestor Alderman William Welles - so there you have it!

@TJCoats Such a curious procedure the pneumothorax. It feels like the epitome of field surgery when it is being done to you. Very odd and uncomfortable albeit necessary when your lung is slowly deflating!

Put the bed up high and put your hands down onto the bed so that your instruments point anterior and towards the patient’s head. Works for both closed and open chest drain methods. Air goes up and forwards, so pneumothorax drain should go the same way.

A chest drain will go in the same direction as the tunnel you make through the chest. Common error is for a pneumothorax drain to go down & back. This happens because when we stand next to the bed our instruments naturally point in that direction. Solution…….
