@alcratz unsurprisingly, making a game that doesn't ask the players to think about what buttons they press in the context of the characters on the screen produces players that aren't used to thinking about moves in the context of the character they are attached to

None of this was a real problem until T8 proved to everyone that the Tekken Project is incapable of balancing anything even remotely interesting or unique. As such, people advocate for homogenizing the game *even more* as a compromise. What else can you do? (Besides quit ofc)

We need to really talk about Asuka’s F4. This move is an absolute WARCRIME. WHO the FUCK has a i19, NORMAL HIT LAUNCHING, RANGE 50, PLUS 3 ON BLOCK HOMING HIGH WITH 0 RECOVERY FRAMES???? I hate this move as much as her CAN CAN, DF2, and B3. Easy mode ass launchers ISTG

@SuperAkouma I stopped commenting on most of anything except posts like this, but look at it as making sure the next game doesn't take from this one ig, couldn't care less about Tekken8 and the future of the franchise if it has anything to inherit from this one

@overflowyouknow What about the opposite? combos start strict and branch out to a wider range of options (10f->15f) but the scaling suffers from the hits. Stronger buttons make you start from more advanced "position" in the bloom which makes stronger options available sooner and thus less scaled

@ghirlandatekken you're right except I don't believe pros are unbiased or impartial. The dev portal will be useless at best and a complete shitshow at worst, but "hiring" "pros" with a "decent" salary because they are supposed to be "unbiased" is not a solution and kinda silly

Devs should simply hire few pro that showed objectivity in their behaviour and careers with placements obtained with multiple characters (able to play different play style means a broader vision of the game), give them a tournament ban of 6 months, compensated by a decent salary, and rely on them for the game balance and ideas. As arrogant as it sounds, and i am sorry if i sound like that to anyone, the dev game portal will be flooded by requests of the so called "discord heroes", people that spend a great amount of their time fanboying a single character, or fighting about who has more mods position in multiple tekken servers, without any real knowledge of the game. Therefore most of the time their opinion will be totally biased and uninformed. The fact they spend WAY more time than the average player on discord, and often organize themselves in cliques, means they will report more time than the average user and will be more loud about their report. Shirdel behavior was not only expected, but i am pretty sure it will be followed by multiple requests for other characters as well by other similar people

Tekken 8 Patch 3.0 is not "a small step in the right direction" but "many steps in vastly different directions" Some characters were nerfed in solid ways that make a lot of sense (Anna CH > elbow, Nina b222, Steve armor, Yoshi 1,1) Other characters got slaps on the wrist, or were ONLY buffed. Weaknesses were intentionally removed. This contradicts the statement of focusing on strengths, weakness, and identity. The only consistent thing was a focus on making things "easier." Unique tech and conversions were removed, offense was streamlined, and a lot of execution checks were completely removed. According to this patch, situational awareness is not something that should be heavily rewarded, and cool things keep getting removed or simplified. Generally the vibes seem down, and I'm personally pretty confused by the direction of the game.

@PhiDXGames @Xingu1arity_ They can open 50 different dev portals but if there's noone on the other side listening to the messages being sent it won't do any good. Hard to imagine they were clueless to the sentiment towards the direction up until now because they did not have an official channel of coms

@overflowyouknow yeah but at the same time consider that there are few games even in the 2d domain where you'd need even just what you're showing here as air moves are concerned to have a character, Tekken movelists are just that large

Yeah somehow airborne even Tekken flows nicely. Most of that is on the original animations and blending but some of it is on me decision wise with this mod. I'm pretty stretched thin lol. I could think of a few tweaks visually for improvement but the problem is the number of attacks that can even be bent to work for this. Any attack can be made to go into the air but if the legs don't move it looks like someone is clicking and dragging a still image across the screen.

@LeaderGrev "People" doesn't exist, though. It's a flattening of a multitude of desperate, contrasting and even conflicting values, opinions, rituals. concord means something completely different to anyone you might ask. Everything that is concord is casting a net so wide it loses meaning.

@zen_leaf Appreciate the comment. The article isn’t really about consumers, though, it’s about people talking more about business/marketing than about games themselves. I do have a new appreciation for the idea of concord as an idea, though!
