In the end, we were all just humans, drunk on the idea that love, only love, could heal our brokenness. — F. Scott Fitzgerald

Whey. Creatine. Electrolytes. Magnesium. Zinc. Fish oil capsules. Protein bar. ON/Asics/Hoka/Skechers shoes. Athleisure clothing. Marathons. Dexa scan. Hyrox. Whoop. Apple watch. Garmin. Aura/Ultrahuman ring. Oakley. Strava. Gyms. Black coffee. Fitness podcasts. This is the consumption pattern i've seen in people moving towards a fitness conscious lifestyle in top-tier cities.

“Practice any art, music, singing, dancing, acting, drawing, painting, sculpting, poetry, fiction, essays, reportage, no matter how well or badly, not to get money and fame, but to experience becoming, to find out what's inside you, to make your soul grow.” — Kurt Vonnegut
Michael Warburton@For_Film_Fans

In 2006 a high school English teacher asked students to write to a famous author & ask for advice. KURT VONNEGUT (who left us 19yrs ago today) was the only one to respond. His reply was a doozy.

Ben Lerner's Transcription is getting a lot of positive attention. I like the premise of the book. This is as described on Amazon. 'A writer returns to his college town, where he is to conduct (what will be) the final published interview with Thomas, his ninety-year-old mentor. But after he drops his smartphone in the hotel sink, he arrives at Thomas's house with no recording device – a fact he is mysteriously unable to confess. What unfolds from this dreamlike circumstance is both a brilliant meditation on those technologies that enrich and impoverish our connections to each other, that store and obliterate our memories, and a moving exploration of the relationships that make us who we are.'

The older you get, the more you realize luck is mostly exposure. If you sit in the same place, have the same routine, talking to the same people, nothing new really happens. You have to tackle the world to win. Travel more. Talk to people. Try a breakfast spot. Post on social media. Start a side hustle or a hobby. The world rewards motion. You don't find opportunity sitting still.

I sometimes wonder what it would be like if two people knew each other only through the books they read. Like…we just exchange books. No conversations. No texts. Nothing. I annotate a lot, so maybe the connection happens in the underlined lines, in the margins, in the parts we choose to pause at. Over time, you start knowing the other person. Not from what they say, but from what they feel about what they read.
