Born on This Day, Turbo B (Sunday, April 30, 1967) Born Durron Maurice Butler in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, Turbo B became one of the unmistakable Black American voices of early 1990s global dance music. Before Snap!, he came through music as a drummer, served in the U.S. Army, and was stationed in Germany, the same place where his path crossed with the producers behind Snap! As the frontman voice of Snap!, Turbo B helped carry “The Power” and “Rhythm Is a Dancer” into international rotation. “The Power” became a major 1990 dance-rap record, while “Rhythm Is a Dancer” became one of the defining Eurodance anthems of the decade, reaching No. 1 in multiple countries and the top five on the U.S. Hot 100. To this day, his presence matters because he represents one of those overlooked Black American bridges into global electronic music, rap delivery, beatboxing, military migration, German club culture, and 1990s pop-dance crossover all converging in his cultural footprint. More than 30 years later, Turbo B remains active as a performer and entertainer, reflecting the Snap! era impact that carried his voice around the world.
