Today we celebrate the 98th birthday of conductor Herbert Blomstedt. Still active, still touring, still entrancing orchestras and audiences alike. Chapeau, maestro 🫡 📷 © Paul Yates

A very happy 98th (!!) to Herbert Blomstedt. He is a miracle - seems to have discovered the secret of eternal youth! And such a warm, refined, natural musician; and the same in personal terms - such a wonderful man. Thank you for the joy you bring, Maestro Blomstedt!

This whole US/Canada thing is deeply upsetting. I am asked about it everywhere I go. I posted on FB about how I've paid almost $5000 US for the O-1 visa I just got after a wait of over 5 months. US musicians pay ZERO to play in Canada. Something not right there. @PascaleStOnge_

@HewittJSB I've been thinking of getting your set of Bach concertos lately. What a wonderful opportunity --- so be it!

Do you remember CDs? If you would like an autographed copy of one of mine as a Xmas present, please order from my online shop in the next few days as I will have to close it for a bit on 6/12. Some items sold out but still lots of good stuff! angelahewitt.com/shop/

@BerlinPhil The remarkable acoustical properties of the Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor, coupled with extremely well-differentiated winds and brass groups, allowed me to hear the details of Bruckner Fifth that I could miss even in great recordings. Bravo!

1991: My earlier Elgar recordings were successful enough to warrant a continuation of his orchestral music. I am constantly amazed at the structural clarity of his vision. These covers celebrate my 80th birthday, tracing the history of the Slatkin family through their recordings.

@iGrrrl Would it be possible to chant this to the music of Bruckner's Te Deum?

The G protein shuffle Well the analogs are irreversable And the agonists, they compete When the subunits dissociate The Cyclase thinks it's sweet So C catalyzes the reactions 'Til the GTP goes bust C thought it was love with a Gs-alpha But it was nucleotide-made lust.

@iGrrrl The proofreading of my paper seems to be even more paranoid now. Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer, und so weiter.

I think a lot about language. It serves as one of the major tools of wetware hacking, your own and others. (You can also use embodiment, but that is another thread.) I want to talk about the year I spent writing in E-Prime, English without any form of the verb to be. 1/8
