Reminder that the #ZombieFormalist is up and running on #Instagram! It's a replay of ##TheImitationGame showing missed compositions shown at the #VanArtGallery due to the the #Twitter suspension. instagram.com/zombieformalis… If you follow the #ZombieFormalist, follow on #instagram!

Been to the #VancouverArtGallery and seen "The Imitation Game: Visual Culture in the Age of Artificial Intelligence" exhibition? Did you spot the #ZombieFormalist in the lobby, go to Twitter and not find the amazing composition you were looking at?

This year is going to be crazy. My birthday is in two days. I go back to Rome in less than a week. So much still to do for the biggest survey exhibition I’ve ever curated in my life. The show opens to the public in a New York museum on Feb 2nd. I’m already booked to go to the

@briandroitcour I think what Cohen had that few contemporary artists (and engineers) was an emphasis on cognition over mere image synthesis. I think @pkmital (and Bogart) stand out more inline with Cohen than Sougwen or Mario. We should give more props to the artists using AI from 1990-2010.

ahead of the exhibition of AI art pioneer Harold Cohen at the Whitney, I wrote about his work in his relation to contemporary artists using AI artbasel.com/stories/harold…

"With all the hype, it’s easy to forget that there’s no such thing as a single artificial intelligence because there’s no such thing as a single natural intelligence. I’ve come to think of my approach of learning through systems — deemed intelligent or otherwise — as a creative catalyst. There is meaning in the data, but it’s not the meaning we are given; it’s the meaning we make." – @Sougwen Chung

@CracknellR19828 @tezos It’s neither good or bad but the same artists that were talking so loud and virtue signaling about saving the planet -which indeed the crucial stake of our times- are now deploying works on Bitcoin, the most energy-consuming blockchain. I don’t understand the logic.

So many artists that were strongly advocating for @tezos as an environmentally friendly blockchain are now minting ordinals. What happened in 3 years ?

Remind me why we ever stopped saying hypertext? It's like in 2017 when I really wanted to bring back "transmedia."

@JoanieLemercier Stability is an illusion, AI changes photography. Everything is emerging. Or maybe the digital infects everything and disrupts stability.

@AutoArtMachine I mean "emerging" as a field whose formats, executions, models are still evolving and changing, and as opposed to other recent fields like photography and film, which have now "settled" over the course of 2 centuries.

Making artworks in the emerging field of new media arts is incredibly exciting. Yet, building an economic model around this practice is very challenging. (a thread)

I love how visual images can create shared experience. This indeed came from a period of obsession - with coaxing imperfection out of the computer. QQL #263 is part of a series called "Unbroken". You can see the full set on my website: simqqls.com/studies/unbrok…

QQL # 263 by @Simulacrum4k - This may be the most perfectly imperfect QQL to date. I’m obsessed with the wobbly rows and relaxed structure. It seems simple but it feels so refreshing to me.

@jitterypixels I used to think that was sad but maybe context isn't sad, maybe it's a valuable and important part of the work as a whole?

Sometimes when I see someone drooling over art by someone famous I wonder if they would drool over the same work were it by someone not famous. Usually, I think prolly not. Am I not giving enough credit to people? Maybe famousness adds to the context genuinely enhancing the work?

Do you mean about collectors pumping some mediocre works as artistic miracles? Yeah, I see this all the time around the space, can't take it seriously but mostly as an attempt to pump their bags. Can't take that kind of collectors as serious collectors too, just as speculators and gamblers at most. I believe more into the judgment by artist community about what is good art

@ReginaHarsanyi i agree this view is incredibly parochial but as an artist knowing what the internet is i think i've already got all the tools i need to bring my art to the general public. hence the irl museums/galleries are much less relevant. there are other ways.

Make no mistake that there are still collectors, gallerists, museum workers, and general public in 2023 that do not consider media art fine art no matter what collection it's in or how it's contextualized.
